Zverev takes the opening set 6-2 and barely breaking a sweat doing it. Felix looking dreadful thus fat today.

I think the set score line of 6-2 6-4 for Zverev flattered Felix to be honest.

Leylah was up 5-3 serving for the opening set and drops four straight games. Still has yet to fix her service toss and as a result, it ends up putting way too much pressure on her service games. Also just way too many unforced errors. Let's see if she can regroup.

Three consecutive breaks of serve to start set 2. This is a WTA match between two players who are far from their best form.

It really did. Zverev never faced a single break point. In fact Felix didn't win a single point against Zverev's 2nd serve the entire match. One of the easiest matches Zverev will have all year. I can't believe how far he's fallen as he's no longer competitive against top players. How he hasn't fired Fontang is a total mystery to me. It looks like Shapo is much closer to getting his game back which is kind of surprising.

This may sound like sour grapes, but Pegula didn't win the match as much as Leylah lost the match. Just inexplicably bad especially on the backhand today. It probably doesn't matter too much however as Pegula will play Navarro who is playing some incredible tennis and I think has to be the favorite.

Shapo breaks Arnaldi at love serving for the match at 5-4 in set 2. We play on at 5-5
Edit: Consolidates the break and at worse will be playing a tie-break.

Shapo loses the tie-break and the match, but some positive signs this week and definitely trending in the right direction.

Yeah definitely some encouraging signs that he's getting closer. Arnoldi was on a roll this week and he was a few bounces of taking him to a 3rd set.

Marina Stakusic defeats Rebecca Marino in the first round of the San Luis Open (WTA 125K event). Unfortunate that two Canadians had to face one another this early.

I'm pretty down on the entire crop of Canadian tennis right now. Not a single one looks like they are going to adapt or change enough to become consistent top 20 players on tour for the next 4-5 years.
Maybe something miraculous happens, but at this point, all with serious flaws, I feel like not a single Canadian player currently on the ATP/WTA tour will be a top 20 player in the long run. They all seem seriously and strangely stubborn in their ways of playing to a single strength game that has no margin for error or ability to adapt when they maybe only have a C level game on a certain day.

At least Shapo decided to hire an experienced coach like Javier Piles who was Ferrer's long time coach. You can already see some signs of him getting his game back. Felix is still operating like things aren't broke when clearly they are. I'm sure Fontang is a good coach but Felix's game has stagnated and it's pretty clear to me that it's time for a new voice and eyes to get him to that next level that looked so close 16 months ago.

Canada just won the Davis Cup and Billie Jean Cup. This could be our golden age.

We've been down this road previously with Denis where it appears he's making some positive changes to his game only to see him revert back to the wildly aggressive Shapo who has very little shot tolerance. Over the last two tournaments though, I see a much more composed Denis on court and a willingness to stay in the point longer and see if he can force an error from his opponent or a short ball before trying to hit a winner.
Now the clay season starts and that patience will be tested even more. I don't even know if wins or losses are really that important currently, in my opinion he's playing the game the right way and as we all know, the margins are razor thin between winning and losing a match. He certainly could have forced a 3rd set against Arnaldi in Miami the way he was playing and then you never know, he could have eked out a win.
