No, someone said that before, way before McDavid. Let me see if I can google it.
This was Maclean in 2015:
“You watch Eberle take off. He’s already been great in international hockey, but I think this is going to be his year, Taylor Hall’s year.
And Connor McDavid and Darnell Nurse will fit in. Gimme a glass of wine or a beer, and I think in two years they win the Cup. That may be a little eager, but I don’t think more than four.“

Well, usually when you get a Crosby/Malkin duo like the Oilers have, yeah you should have a couple cups . But uhhhh, they forgot how to build a team around those players. And are wasting these guys' primes.

Well, I think the cap hit McDavid took in with a lot of time wasted on evaluating talent which didn't transpire, really led to wasted years. I'm not an Oilers hater to the degree those here are (I think McDavid is going to be the best player ever), but I don't know how they're seen as a favourite based on their team makeup. The West is weak, I think most acknowledge that, but this years team isn't good enough to go all the way.

McDavid won't catch OV or Gretz. His legs will wear out like Bures did.

Sorry, but if there isn't a way Gio can win without Toronto also winning I'm not down. It's not worth it. You can't lump one with the other and call it a good thing. Gio is good. Toronto is No Good.
The only scenario where I allow it is if it's Toronto-Edmonton, and that scenario is still highly unlikely.

Oh, I don't think anyone will beat Gretz' points, ever, but as a player, and game domination in modern day, McDavid is far better than OV or Crosby were. Gretzky's day may have been the early stages of the sport. Goaltenders were dogpoop, so as great as his vision was, the overall maturity of the game wasn't there. For McDavid to dominate as much as he's done in the modern day where the game has matured, is something else.

The Leafs are a good team and quite honestly, I'm happy they finally won a series.
Plus, Oiler fans are constantly battling with Leaf fans so in my books, the Leafs are our allies. #### the Oilers.
Not sure how anybody can't be happy for Gio or Brodie. 2 guys who gave it there all here and got SFA to show for it. I'm really happy for them.
Not to mention seeing Perry sulk his way off the ice. And of course, TBL will ALWAYS be hated because of '04, doesn't matter if their team is different now. You simply do not cheer for a team that stole the cup from you, regardless of what decade you are in.
Not ashamed to say I'm on the Leafs' bandwagon for now.
Wow, what a wild night last night was. I was at a live R&B concert in the fashion district and when we left, the streets were filled with happy fans celebrating, hugging each other and cars honking. Bars and streets were packed even at 2:30 when I started to make my way home. 19 years of suffering released in a moment - pretty awesome for this city!
