For whatever reason, I just don’t see Johnny leaving. I believe him when he said that he never said he wanted to leave.
If I put myself in to his shoes, as a hockey player, I would want to be comfortable, playing lots of minutes while contributing and winning. Well, he’s got all those things right now to go along with quite possibly the best line in the game. I mean, there’s no guarantee he gets all these things if he bolted.
The other things he has said in the past like the team being close knit and his family liking it here. I don’t know if leaving to a new team filled with new players/personnel is all that appealing to him. I think if he gets the dollars he’s looking for, he’ll re-sign.
I mean, heck, maybe I’m wrong and he does indeed leave. That would suck. But I guess we could just blow it up and go after Bedard. I suppose that’s some silver lining.

Tanking to go after Bedard would have been a better strategy under the previous coaches. It sure would be nice for Darryl to have more than one season to try and win this thing.

Unless Bedard changes how he approaches the game every day, I'm not that keen on him. I have the "privilege" of watching him live, and while an insane talent, I find he cheats more often than not, and coasts far too often. He plays like he expects the puck to come to him, and doesn't work for it nearly as hard as he should, or has shown in international games.
When he is on, wow is he fun to watch. But I'd say 50% of the game I've watched him, he's borderline invisible most of the game until he gets the puck.

I guess he just lucked out winning the scoring title in the WHL as a 15 year old.

What’s the point in posting, man? To wallow in your pessimism with other like minded rock kickers? Let everyone know how dumb the Flames are and how smart you are? Mental health is a thing. If you’re this down trodden about something that should be a distraction or something for you to enjoy then what is it bringing to your life other than something to complain endlessly about? To what end? Tell a therapist, not CP.
You are right though there are two ways to view things. Being pessimistic, your stand point, is easy. Any potato can do that. Taking the 10,000 foot view of something you have no first hand knowledge of and calling the people involved idiots or incompetent makes me question who the idiot is.
Pretty sure Treliving has considered each of his options and done the risk analysis. Wouldn’t you have if you were in his shoes?

I'm flawed big time. Fair points all around. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I hope he stays. He's electric. He's a superstar. He stirs the drink. Sorry to have been an ass. My bad.

Sorry anyone I pissed off here. Try to stay away when I'm on edge. Bipolar is a cruel mistress. Go flames! Legit just want a winner. This city and fans deserve it big time. Kudos to anyone who keeps this stuff on the level

All good. We all want the same thing which is the Flames to win. Sometimes our passions get the better of us. Good reminder that there’s humans behind these keyboards

Thanks, I appreciate that. I try to stay away from all social media when I'm mad. Just hard to see in the moment. I go the other way too. Lol it's brutal. What I wouldn't give to make it stop. My whole life has been torpedoed by it. Here is just a taste. I spent last 3 months isolated because it's just easier for everyone

Its the second time this has been brought up and it makes zero sense from the Flames or Gaudreau's perspective. Gaudreau could suffer a career ending injury during the season and lose the entire next contract that he's already agreed to.
And from the Flameds perspective, they have a superstar player locked into an "agreed upon contract" that isn't signed? Can anyone explain how this makes any sense at all?
With the lawyers and agents involved, I literally cannot see a single reason for either side to be like "Okay, we agree on the contract, see you guys in the spring to sign it". I literally don't get this angle and how it's being brought up as a thing.

You are correct, it makes zero sense. Johnny would be insane to have committed to a contract now but not sign it. He would perhaps be an injury away from losing $80M or so.

I don't know why I keep coming back here to check either. With how much fun the team has been to watch this season, it's definitely a wet blanket to wander in here and just feel bummed out about the contract situations.
I'm certainly not a fan of signing players close to 30 years old to max term contracts. If you get one of those contracts, you best be among the elite in the league and worth every penny game in game out.
The crazy thing is that Johnny IS definitely elite and brings it each and every game. I'm not really scared the least in a contract that long with him, even in the downswing of his career.
This will easily be the biggest blemish of BT's tenure if he is allowed to walk. The fact it is a realistic option at this stage is frustrating given how the team has handled high end assets like this in the past. All I can say is I hope and pray there is some kind of discussion ongoing between both sides where Johnny is out to prove himself worthy of a large contract, and that contract is signed with the Flames.

Not disputing his talent or his penchant for putting up points. Point I am making is his eye test during a full game, as I have watched while he had been a Pat this season.
They doubled the cost of tickets this season, and he hasn't been worth the entry most nights.

Nope because it is merely fantasy by fans to try and feel better about the reality of a situation that doesn't look like it is on par with their wishes.

No worries, man. Easy to have frustrations bubble to the surface, especially in todays world. It happens to everyone and they can manifest in pressonal relationships, work, or even forums/social content such as this. I am guilty of this too and was probably not at my best yesterday either.
I think there is reason to be optimistic for the Flames, even if you have to squint. Enjoy the ride.

I disagree with posters saying this thread is depressing.
I am ecstatic that we are in a position to even want Gaudreau to stay. I am also ecstatic that Gaudreau is in a position to even ask for a max contract because of his stellar play.
I remember a while back with our playoff losses (the worse when we were swept by the ducks) that some people even wanted Gaudreau shipped out of town since he was a bust.
This is a good thing that we even care about Gaudreau resigning.

Johnny Hockey is going to get PAID if he stays, he is having his best year as a flame in my eyes. Not a liability out there and is basically responsible for team offense more games then not.
Once again a swing and miss by Brad. It sounds crazy but hes gonna have to pay him SUBSTANTIALLY more then what he could have got him for a year ago. I'm talking a Milan Lucic more.

And Johnny knew this and probably wanted another year to up his income, so why would he sign?

I hope Johnny stays and signs long term. He is the most dynamic and important player since Iggy. He sells tickets.
Do I think he tests the market? Yes. He's likely a top 10 offensive player in the league and teams are going to be willing to fling money at him.
What I don't understand though, is Flames fans are are so afraid he's going to bolt to Philly. Of the hundreds or thousands of players over the past 10-20 years, how many players wanted to bolt home in FA? They bolt toward the money, and in the cap era, they bolt to the team that can afford them. Alternatively, he's said many times he enjoys Calgary so maybe, just MAYBE, he stays here unless someone offers him insane money.

Kudos to him for betting on himself, and its surely going to pay off. Not so sure it was as impossible to get done earlier as you think. If there is one thing we know about Brad is that he is extremely tough negotiator on his own guys, which has paid off sometimes but in more recent memory has backfired terribly. This is now a game of roulette Brad is going to lose.
