So I advanced to the fist stage of a jeopardy audition. This is after the initial online quiz where next Wed I now have a zoom audition where I play a version of Jeopardy.
Has anyone done this? I have no idea what to expect, except that I am likely to completely flame out.

This is what their FAQ says:

Auditions are currently taking place in two parts, both via video conference. In the first round, qualifiers will take a 50-question “in-person” online test (in the same format as the AnytimeTest). You may be contacted anytime within a year of taking this test (if you pass and are randomly selected) to participate in the second round, the gameplay audition.
In the gameplay audition, contestant coordinators will lead the group through a brief game-playing tutorial. After the tutorial, everyone will take turns playing a mock version of the game in groups of three. At the end of the mock game, each applicant will be asked to tell a little bit about themselves: likes, dislikes, career, family, hobbies, etc. This is meant to emulate the contestant interview portion of the show. The audition will last approximately one hour. (Note that you must submit your signed application at least one day before your audition date.)
Reliable internet access and a computer webcam or front-facing camera on your phone or tablet are required for the audition. You will receive an email with a Zoom video conference link approximately 30 minutes before the audition, which you should join at the appointed time. We suggest using a laptop for the audition, but you can also use a phone or tablet (note that you will need the Zoom app installed on your phone or tablet if you plan on using either of those).

Good luck Jiri!

Some advice I’ve heard is to make sure you have an interesting story about yourself and if asked what you will do with the winnings do not answer travel or pay off debt.

I think this is the audition. The zoom test is just a live version of the online test. Fifty questions from fifty categories, 15 seconds to type in a response. Only difference is you are being monitored on camera to ensure you aren't googling #### or have anyone else helping you.

For the audition, yes, it's about presentation, not getting answers right, they already know you're smart. It's a casting call.

I suggest an interesting anecdote about moderating a local professional sports teams message board

Good luck Jiri! That's awesome!

If you reach the mock game/audition, make sure you keep a good game flow going and don't freeze when you have control of the board. From what I've read, it's also good to show that you listen to any feedback they give you, look like you're having fun, and say the full category title. Like FireGilbert said, avoid the boring answers when asked about the winnings.

Best of luck.

I know two people who have been on the show. Both lost. I don't know either super well.

Here's to you making it!

I got a little more info, and I don't think this is the full audition. What they told me is I will have a brief chat with a member of the Jeopardy team followed by another 50 question quiz.
Which I think will be the end of it.
I've taken the online qualifying quiz several times, including a couple months ago. When i took that one I knew I had done better than usual. But I don't have the knowledge coverage to get through another quick i don't think.

But it'll be a cool experience none the less.

So if you want to feel not smart, go through that experience. Oof.
Basically what happened is this:
- Logged into the zoom at the time, and there were 24 others there plus the Jeopardy rep
- They did a roll call where you basically confirmed you were there. You could tell some people were trying to show their personality but that's not what this is. That happens next if you get through this phase.
- Not a lot of diversity in that group. 80% men, 100% white.
- The host then put a link in the chat for the 50 question quiz. One poor guy couldn't find chat in zoom and that took about 8 minutes for him to figure it out. I was surprised that the host just didn't proceed without him. And you could tell he was super stressed. Felt bad for him.
- You then do a 50 question quiz. You have to keep your camera on. It's all recorded and I'm pretty sure they are reviewing to make sure no one is cheating.

So how did I do?

Well you don't know. At this point they could contact you for the next stage anytime from now until 1 year from now. After 1 year passes you can do the online quiz again.

I started off well and had some hope. But I simply don't have the coverage across enough topics. I took educated guesses on some but there were a bunch that a simply didn't know at all. And I would say there were few, if any, easy questions ($200/$400 level).

Wordplay questions and those types are typically one of my strengths, but I found under this pressure with the seconds ticking down, even those were harder.

I would guess I got 20ish right. Maybe up to 25 depending on some of my educated guesses. Which won't be nearly good enough.

Fun experience though.

That quadruple correction on yesterday‘s Jeopardy was not something I’ve seen many times. You’ll occasionally get a correction later on but to have that many corrections all at once was hilarious to watch.

I do not like this champion. He gets on my nerves. Sometimes contestants are just irritating and it makes the show hard to watch.

i think he was lucky, his answer should have been thrown out?

For people that didn't watch, what does that say?

I agree, the way he panicked and tried to tell/convince Ken what he wrote and then for Ken to say he could read it?? Should not have been accepted.
