Put Iggy on Johnny's opposite wing and we're not down 3-1 right now.

Oh absolutely.
Neal has been finding ways to miss empty nets all year, and it's spread to the rest of the team apparently.

I know that it's not a guarantee that GG ruined Bennett, but consider how well he did under Hartley in his first season, it's not out of the realm he had a negative influence since lots of players diminished with Gulutzan.

Bennett has been great this series.
Unfortunately this game he was dragging around two boat anchors in Jankowski and Neal. I was shocked that they saw any ice at all in OT and late in the game. What happened to shortening the bench to give those few guys who give a damn more ice time?

Iginla won that game 7 in Vancouver, as much as Kipper did, if not more.

Ya and throw Nieuwendyk down the middle and we’d be able to counter Mackinnon. Too bad we live in the real world. ####

Iggy got the flames to the highest point they have ever been in 2+ decades. Every incarnation of the team since hasn't come close. Kipper is a huge factor, but that doesn't take away from the heart of the '04 club.

That stat is unreal. And, it doesn’t account for quality of chances. Gap would be even bigger.
Smith = stud in postseason.

I would certainly take prime Iggy, anytime, anywhere.
He was here for many debacles though...including 07 which was the most similar to this one

I'm disappointed that for whatever reason, the coaching staff doesn't seem to give Bennett a shot to play with players that actually have some resemblance of skill. This game for one shift, Bennett was with Tkachuk and Backlund, and it actually had a decent shift with good pacing. You figure Peter's will give it another shot eh? Nope. I don't get it. You can't expect a player to be productive if their linemates are complete anchors.
There actually might be some unutilized production from Bennett that's not getting taken advantage of, and it's hurting the team.

I love Benzo but even I’m starting to think that his lack of success really is due to his own limitations. His hands can’t keep up with his brain, causing him to lose the puck frequently in traffic. He still only has one deke, and it only works on rookies and Ian Cole. He falls way too often for an NHLer. He’s surprisngly bad on the boards for a scrappy guy.
He plays a great style of game and he can be really impactful when everything is going right but there’s just not enough there all the time which I’m sure has him disappointed, because if he brought all his skills every shift he’d be an 8 million dollar player. Too bad you can’t splice his compete, drive, and feistiness into Monahan. That would be a hell of a player.
Of course this could all be just due to the Flames seeming inability to develop any players at the NHL level. Every single regular is either as good as they were in 2015/2016 or worse than they were, although the rise in scoring a great PP this year contributed to some great counting stats.
Monahan has not improved since his second year in the league. All of his contemporaries have. In the endless cruel joke that is the Flames, Monahan gets paid the most out of him, Mackinnon, Barkov, and Scheifele, and they all signed their deal the same summer.
Just the flames doing flames things i guess

I think the point about 04 Iginla is that the current Flames have no one capable of those elite playoff level performances we saw from him. I’ve been curious to see who would rise to the occasion for this team and I’m still waiting.

Both those guys finished the night with more icetime than Bennett.

Could you imagine if we actually came back and won this series? This thread would be hilarious to read in hindsight.

I've been a Monahan fan for a while, but he's being exposed. He just doesn't drive the play whatsoever the way you want your #1 center to do, and he just seems like he has zero intensity and has no physicality to his game at all. You'd like to see it since he has the size ... If this team wants to take another step forward, we need someone who can drive the play, take the game over at times and doesn't have to almost completely rely on Johnny. An upgrade to the 3rd line center position is a must too, Jankowski just hasn't gotten it done outside of the PK. I was excited about signing Neal, but wow, what a disappointment. No idea what we're gonna do with him. Hopefully he rebounds next year I guess.

Read a stat that we only gave up 40+ shots against two or three times all year or something like that? yeah, big time collapse there.
