So how do you feel about having to carry dead weight at your job? How do you feel when you knock your dick into the dirt and some guy that's been around forever gets to slide, just because they've been around forever? That ever get on your nerves? Or how about when management brings in some dufus who is a friend of someone and doesn't contribute like everyone else, but they get all the attention, because of whose friend they are? That ever piss you off?
I've never been a fan of the "mascot" player. It isn't a motivator. After high school, this #### is garbage. Sure, you feel good for Rudy, but you aren't playing the game for him. You sure as hell hate it when someone focuses on Rudy and you're bleeding out there for your team, while Rudy is on the bench doing nothing or playing sheltered minutes. Respect the players who are out there killing themselves and provide them supporting players who will give the team the best chance to win, not give the fans some warm and fuzzy. No one is going to play any harder because Iginla is on the roster, but they are going to resent the #### out of being asked questions about a player on the margins of the roster when they are the guys carrying the load and not getting the respect they deserve.
Anyone who thinks the guys from the '89 Flames were playing for McDonald, and not for fulfilling their personal dreams of winning a Stanley Cup is absolutely delusional. McDonald was a great media story, and nice for the team, but none of those players were thinking about Lanny when they were battling along the boards or fighting to score a goal. When asked after winning the Conn Smythe, Al MacInnis didn't say "Lanny's going to Disneyland!" No one is going to give a shot about Iginla when it comes down to game seven and overtime is on the line. This is their shot at immortality. They'll play for themselves and the guys who helped them get there, not a late addition who is a hanger on.
lol

I apologize for offending you. It appears you were triggered. Didn't know positive opinions could illicit such a strong response.

There's a difference between positive and stupid. You're more of the latter than the former. Maybe you should be asking yourself why there was only one taker at the deadline last season, and that was Iginla's coach from back in the old days? Not a single contender wanted Iginla. Not one. But they could have had such an amazing story to me otivate the fans and the team! Reality is that no one wanted the distraction of a guy that can't play anymore. The smart GMs stayed away. The one that bit on Iginla? He's unemployed.
New Era- Did Iginla push your grandmother down a flight of stairs or something? Sheesh.
Nope, just hate stupid #### about washed up has beens being brought back for reasons that are actually counter to achieving success. Please name another team that has won in the past 20 years that went out of their way to sign a player that was clearly past his expiration label for "motivation" purposes. This is such stupidity.

Insulting other posters does not display your intelligence. Only the opposite. Your opinion is valid but loses credibility when you do so. We are here to have a discussion, and I do not hold it against you to disagree

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to trigger your snowflake sensibilities.
New Era, at what point are you embarrassed at the time/posts/words you've utterly wasted rehashing the same topic and points over and over and over again? Some people think Iginla should come back, for some that's an emotional decision, big deal. Your reactions are so over the top (and long winded) that it's almost impossible to take you seriously.
Then you type out the same thing again and again and it is impossible at that point.
Sometimes you just have to step away from a thread and a topic.

Wow, you truly don't ####ing get it, do you. You need to get over yourself and treat other people with a little more respect. Smoggy afforded you that courtesy even though you didn't do much to deserve it.

Have you not figured NE's whole reason for being on CP yet? This should not be surprising to anyone.

My intent is to talk about real hockey, but this thread has ceased being about real hockey. I get that now.

Fine, I will do that. Thanks for the advice.

I am not sure if Iginla will come back or not, or how he and the Flames will do. I am not sure how he will fit into the system, or who Gulutzan ends up having him play with. I can't be sure of what responsibilities he would have, or even if he is given an A.
All that I am sure of is that I am sweating right now if I am Bingo. I would be looking at upgrading a server. There would be an explosion of arguments, his play will get dissected non-stop all season causing even more arguments, and the mods will have to double in number.
Glorious times ahead!

At this point, I hope Iginla signs with Calgary and scores 20+ just for the New Era crowfeast. Ridiculous over the top response to the possibility and that's coming from someone who has reacted stupidly here in the past.

Bringing Iggy back would be a fairly high risk move for Tre. It could turn out to be a great move and Tre looks like a hero, or it could blow up in his face and a lot of other good moves he has made would be overshadowed by this.
If I was in his shoes I am not sure which way I would go on this.
It would only blow up because people have expectations beyond the norm.
Right now we need someone who can play RW on the top two lines or maybe the 3rd line. Iginla is available but we shouldn't expect him to score 50 again.
But people will expect him to be the second coming and when he inevitably won't be it'll be seen as a failure.
There once was a poster here who hated Backlund with the same strange, unhinged vitriol you have for this topic. He was banned and word has it he went mad.
If it drives you to this level of agitation, you should avoid this topic. But you don't. You stew for a couple days, and then come back in and explode with ridiculous over the top smoke blowing.

But I think majority of fans are thinking rationally and don't have over the top expectations at this point. If he were to sign, he likely scores 10-15 goals and another 10-15 assists at most. 20 goals may be a stretch but still possible if he doesn't start off too slow. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, nobody knows for certain that he signs here, or anywhere at all for that matter.
I have no doubt Iginla can score 10-15 goals on the top line and with PP duty. He can still shoot as well as anyone, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him nail 15+.
Problem I have is I'm pretty sure Ferland can do that as well. Plus he's still developing.
If you're picking up Iginla for 3rd line duty that's fine I guess (I think there are better options personally because he's a 5+ goal guy tops in that role), but I don't want him specifically for the first line.
I'm not a fan of bringing him back, but I'm not going to be upset if they do. Insurance for Ferland I guess in case he trails off, making him a cheap #2 option.
