Hell, it seems half that US crowd was Americans who made the trip up, what would it have been without them, like 5 sections full?

I was surprised that the American game last night only had 20,000 in attendance. I would have expected much more.

I am a little surprised that Edmonton hasn't filled the stands. Edmonton used to take a lot of pride in supporting these types of international events.
However, I wouldn't ever criticize a city for not buying tickets (for this or other events) at prices that price out so much of a market. FIFA could have had a lot better atmosphere at a lot of these games by pricing tickets at half the price and getting twice as many people.
Also Edmonton on a Monday with short notice is not very realistic for most Americans to get to. Their other dates have been able to attract a lot more American visitors.

There is some merit to that. I thought the Holliday one was a clear yellow (stopping a counter attack) but the Rapinoe yellow was harsh.
------
and who really wants to go to Edmonton? American will fill up Ottawa on Friday night.

I think a lot of Americans believed it was a foregone conclusion against Columbia that the US would win and decided to bypass the game. As previously mentioned, tickets aren't exactly cheap and when you add in travel costs, it can get pretty expensive.

My face is a bum!

Especially when you aren't opening the upper sections, you expect young families to come check it out for $95 a pop?

To be fair, Commonwealth nor the city have any control over the pricing.

Air Travel costs in Canada probably make this country one of the worst places in the world to city hop to watch games.

At least we don't have games in the Amazon! I heard those flights last year were insane, jacked up 5fold.

Yup. That's why I was so damn excited about the chance of the USA snatching the WC from Qatar. Travel in the USA is great compared to Canada.
I did a round trip flight to from LA to Houston THROUGH ATLANTA for $260 haha.

I would have liked to see a 5 city western Canada bid: Victoria, Calgary, Vancouver, Regina, Winnipeg.

Japan - Netherlands --- Vancouver --- 8 pm MT
Winner plays Australia in Edmonton on Saturday

Japan: Kaihori (GK), Iwashimizu (CB), Kumagai (CB), Sameshima (LB), Sakaguchi (CM), Miyama (LW), Kawasumi (RW), Ohno (LF), Utsugi (CM), Ogimi (RF), Ariyosh (RB)
Netherlands: Geurts (GK), van Lunteren (RB), van der Gragt (CB), Van den Berg (CB), Dekker (RM), Melis (RF), Spitse (LM), Miedema (CF), van de Donk (CM), Martens (LF), van Dongen (LB)
They have not played head-to-head, but it's advantage Japan for sure. Netherlands a bit like the Swiss with some skill up front in the form of Martens, van de Donk, and Miedema who scored an absurd 16 goals in 14 games of qualifying for this tournament as an 18 year old. The Sam Bennett of the Netherlands national team, but she's yet to really get anything going so far in these finals.

Also mentioned on the broadcast. If the Dutch win this game they will claim the final European spot in next years Olympics. If not they will be a special playoff between them and Norway next year

Netherlands had a good start actually, they didn't look threatening but they were composed. Not so much with the horrific defending on the goal though.

A competent counter-attack can sink this Japan team, and it's about the only thing that can. Once they fall back into the 4-4-2 you're not getting anything anywhere on the field cause they're disciplined, so it has to be on the counter. Arguably the best counter-attacking forward of this tourney has been De Vanna of Australia so it'll be interesting to see if she can get anything going on Saturday.

They played each other twice at last year's Asian Cup. In the group game Australia blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2. Japan won 1-0 in the final.

Netherlands has been all that bad, I wonder where this game would be right now if not for the early screw up. Hard to get anything going against a Japan team that's parking it.
