There are more police than you would normally see in the vicinity of the Alberta Legislature, but it's not double.

It isn't time, per se, as Cl B are typically longer contracts with many being 3-year contracts. The difference is pay primarily.

A Cl B corporal, for example, earns 85% of the Reg Force Cpl's salary.

Cl C is typically given to a reservist on an operational task (eg, Afghanistan, UN deployment, or even a domestic op like the Calgary floods). The Cl C reservist is entitled to the same pay and benefits as the Reg Force soldier.

Many Army units will have significant anniversaries over the next few years. Thus, many of these Units are being rewarded with sending some of their deserving soldiers to Ottawa to serve as sentries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

It will be an even more emotional Remembrance Day for the A&S H of Canada this year sadly.

A nice touch from #Penguins who host #Flyers tonight: Canadian National anthem will be performed pre-game in support of events in Ottawa.

Vancouver Sun reporting the shooter had convictions for robbery and uttering threats in BC in 2011 and 2012. Perhaps a guy with a history of minor troubles becoming more inclined to violence over time, assuming all the reports of his criminal record are correct.

Apparently there were two long exchanges of gunfire. Either there was more than one shooter, or the shooter had more than a shotgun.

Mansbridge brings up interesting question of how the gunman was able to get so far into Parliament Hill.

Unbelievable actually that he was able to get to the Hall of Honor.

Court documents obtained by CBC News show that Zehaf-Bibeau pleaded guilty to charges including drug possession and robbery.

Zehaf-Bibeau, a Canadian born in 1982, was charged with drug possession in 2004.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Zehaf-Bibeau was in trouble with the law again in 2011, this time in British Columbia.

Following a bank robbery in Vancouver, Zehaf-Bibeau was charged with robbery and uttering threats. He was found guilty of the lesser charge of uttering threats and sentenced to one day in jail, with credit for 66 days already served, according to court documents.

Probably more than one shooter. Police are reinstating the lockdown saying "situation is evolving," and people are being told to "remain in current location until further notice"

I never knew that the sergeant of arms was armed. Always thought it was a ceremonial role. Glad he was there today

Reported earlier that normally he isn't. Keeps a pistol in his desk.

Ottawa Police and RCMP stated in their press conference this afternoon that there was no information to suggest a second shooter and that they had no other suspects. I would presume if there was a gunfight with two shooters we would have heard of it by now.

Maybe.

Slow and deliberate clearing of every single building and every single room in that area is going to take a long time as well.
