It is filler, nothing more and nothing less.
Now the original plan for FCC2 would have been amazing:

I honestly can't think of a single one of the large players in town that isn't busting at the seams and needing more space.
Hell, even the Bow couldn't satiate the needs for Encana OR Cenovus. They're both gobbling up floors in other buildings as they come up.

A couple of things bug me from the FCC2 development permit.
From the Urban Design Review Panel:
"The Panel notes the importance of this development to fill up an on grade parking lot in downtown and feels that overall the project will positively contribute to the improvements along the 7th Avenue LRT corridor and 2nd Street SW, by strengthening the vibrancy, mixed uses and urban nature of the City Centre."
If there's an on grade parking lot there, it must be really small! The plans are too blurry to read exactly, but Google Map shows three cars that might lose their parking spots if this goes ahead. Most of the site is a park.
And speaking of that park, here's the Calgary Downtown Association:
"The removal of the existing park is welcomed, as this area has provided a place for many social behaviour issues to take place."
Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

There's definitely a lot happening on this front.... there should be some news on this before the end of the year.

Yeah, it's an odd way to state things. Kind of reminds me of the "exterminate all dogs" thread.... the way that is worded, it seems that we need to rid ourselves of all parks in order to avoid these "social behaviour issues".

It's a urban paved park with an alley and big concrete planters, etc.
They might have been better off calling it a lot or something.

Same property managers in both buildings too although I don't think GWL owns Western Canadian Place - but they do own part of FCC. A bit of a conflict if the tenant moved from a managed but not owned by building to a new building owned by the manager of the prior building.

This is not enough space for Husky if they want to be in one building.

It still breaks up the glass/concrete canyon affect, lets the light in, and has sightlines to one of the coolest "filler" buildings in Calgary (Intact Place). I will not be welcoming its removal.

Yeah I know, still seems odd - also hasn't Husky been slowly giving back space in WCP?

So you're saying we should expect a 250m+ Husky Tower on the lot formerly owned by Imperial Oil, right?

They ripped out a bunch of offices and put people in cubes. Apache has/is moved/moving out of the south tower.

The word is it sold a couple of weeks ago or so, no other details out there besides the rumours.

Rumours of a new tallest (even taller than Brookfield Calgary) are beginning to swirl on SSP.
Potential location is on 9th Ave and 4th or 5th St. and named 'The Gateway'

Gateway ought to look better than EAP if it's gonna block my view of those towers.

Any update on this - I missed the RE Forum yesterday due to being out of town and wondered if there was any more on this?

Actually, Bunk has indicated that the Imperial lot has indeed been sold (just today actually). Can't say anything more than that right now.
Nothing more on a new tallest over Brookfield Place though, however the Imperial lot is by far the best spot in the CBD for a 1000'+ building. It would look amazing in that area.
