yeah, it really is a nice situation. Was kind of surprised to see he'll be AHL-eligible, but the age rules across the leagues can sometimes be confusing ... I remember Philippe Paradis being unable to play in the AHL last season because he was born on January 2 and therefore didn't meet the criteria by two days. Luckily Bärtschi turns 20 well before December 31st, so I think it's safe to say that his junior career is over after this season - even if he shouldn't make the Flames out of camp, but I'd be shocked if that happens. I agree though that an AHL stint wouldn't hurt his development.

I would love it if Ward became the new Flames coach next year. Seems like a well-respected guy who knows what it takes, and he seems to be working very well with the prospects. In any case, I could see him coach in the NHL next year with an other team if the Flames don't hire him.

Anyone going to the Canada-Finland game tonight? Finland usually gets their asses kicked in pre-tournament games, but that will just help them. If they win, I'll be worried about the tournament.

Finland has pretty good forward talent this year. But defense is a question mark, goaltending as well I suppose, and coaching is a big mystery.

Barkov is an interesting player. A 16-year-old manchild with good skill, apparently. Young even for his age group, I think. Looks bigger than the 6'2'' he's listed as. Wouldn't expect him to do much at the U20's, but he's one guy I'll be watching in the tournament. Määttä is a really good defenseman for next year's draft.

I know it will tough, but let's hope Arnold and Gaudreau make it.

I hope they make it, but it'll surely be difficult.

Just found out that Gaudreau has a younger brother named Matt, just turned 17 two weeks ago and is draft-eligible 2013. Puts up good numbers in the USHL, already committed to Boston as well. Not surprisingly, he stands at 5.7 and 130lbs

^^ Drake, is there video of that Sven goal? I'd love to see that.

I don't think I'd be that unhappy if Gaudreau doesn't make it. He'll have his chance next year.

Flames prospects really are all over the WHL, I love it. Feels good to finally have a quite good prospect stock. I find it interesting that we have no prospects in the O and the Q, but I guess it doesn't matter.

Brossoit is now the fourth-best goalie of the league in terms of GAA, only behind overagers Lieuwen and Morrison plus Rimmer, who is also a year older than Brossoit (actually EXACTLY one year lol). His save percentage is also fourth best (again behind Lieuwen, Morrison and Rimmer), his 21 wins is second in the league (Morrison has 22).

Plus we have two forwards in the top 10 in scoring (Bärtschi is still 8th and Ferland 10th) and two more in the top 25 (Holland is 18th and Reinhart is 21st). Elson is only 82nd but has shown offensive improvement too.

Joey Leach is 16th in defensemen scoring, Wotherspoon is 39th (big improvement, has more points than last year already in half the games).

The small time without Mark Stone should be telling sign of Ferland's abilities. If he's still producing points without Stone, we'll know we have a hell of a prospect.

So far, it looks like he's doing well without him. Hopefully he keeps it up.

The interesting thing about Ferland is that he seems to be very much a team guy. When I spoke with him at Hockey Canada's selection camp, all he could talk about is how excited he was with Brandon's start and how well Mark Stone was doing.

Max Reinhart had an assist and Joey Leach was scoreless in Kootenay's 4-2 loss to Red Deer. Turner Elson was scoreless too, but got a major for fighting.

Patrick Holland had a goal in Tr-City's 5-1 win over Kelowna.

So, is Ortio going to get a start anytime soon? I understand he's looked shaky, but sitting on the pine for the rest of the year isn't going to help his adjustment.

This was posted by OilFan#81 in the Sven "Fricken" Bartschi thread. Apparently he suffered a light concussion during the Swiss-Sweden game.
