Per LeBrun yesterday, Buffalo had serious interest in Necas and potentially had 11th overall involved.

Would be nice if Calgary could cash in on that 11th OA pick and maybe more from Carolina. They could use Andersson in their middle pairing RD spot until Burns retires.

I'd like to see flames take on Trouba with a sweetener. To them withold salary at deadline for more assets

This is a good point. He's extremely unlikely to score 20 again.

Trading Weegar makes me nervous but a case can definitely be made

Extremely unlikely.

Trouba’s wife is a Dr. In NY. If he gets traded, I’m sure he is going to use every bit of leverage he has to end up exactly where he wants. Calgary, I’d bet, is a non-starter for him.

Surprised how quiet it has been with the cap going up... expected quite a bit of action today

there is no way in hell I would trade Weegar before Rasmus.

He had 20 goals and 52 points with barely any PP time! It's only going to go up with Savard and Muller outta here!

Cmpdave mentioned that the flames had really good talks with demidov the other day. Now he’s saying that he’s there target for a trade up. Idk how we would get to 4 (since no chance he gets past Montreal at 5) but wow that would be exciting

I think it would be super expensive and he is a winger to boot. If Demidov was a centre I could get behind it but not for a winger.

Yeah Seravelli said yesterday on barn burner that he thinks the flames would love to get 4 if they can too. You just wonder how high the price would be. If the team can add an elite offensive talent like Demidov, for me then the position matters a bit less. Yeah a centre would be ideal but the club needs someone who can make plays offensively.

If the Flames can't move up from 28 and add a second high end piece or move 9 for a top 5 pick and really land a franchise cornerstone, would be smart to see them chase McGroarty with that 28 pick plus. I don't love his attitude wanting to be promised NHL playing time, but Calgary is in a great position to attract NCAA guys who want that pathway given they are rebuilding. Bad history with NCAA guys moving on from the team after 6/7 years but you could really create some value if you can find a young player who can come in and put up some points while you rebuild.

Sounds like the Jets want a pick in the 10-15 range but if that doesn't happen their blueline looks like it could use some upgrading to me

If McGroarty doesn't want to play in Winnipeg, it's not a stretch to say he wouldn't be interested in Calgary either.

It has nothing to do with the city, he wanted to be promised NHL playing time and the Jets weren't willing to do that. He's more likely to go to a rebuilding team that can throw him into the lineup than a US team imo

I think that's smoke and mirrors.

It's a slightly nicer thing for him to say that ends up with the same result.

I think he's just exercising his available loophole to go to a more favorable destination. Granted he doesn't have a say in where that is, but he could just say the same there after the fact if he still doesn't like it.

Who knows I suppose, but I'd stay clear.

If you can get good deals for them, you trade them both and overpay on 2 year deals on veteran UFA defencemen.

I doubt top 10 picks are being offered for Weegar or Andersson straight up; there's probably something more going along with Weegar/Andersson for a top 10 pick.

We've been down this road before with Markstrom and unrealistic expectations of returns. It's just setting Conroy up for more "failing grades" from basement bloggers.

If you trade them both you are killing Wolf's career before it even starts. You have to have some legit D men back there.

... please don't hold Calgary as comparable to Winnipeg. Calgary is a wonderful beautiful city (most of the time) that I love and IMO if you were to give Canada an enema you'd stick the hose in Winnipeg.
