What’s better than a movie where they kill a boatload of Nazis? A movie where a Finn kills a boatload of Nazis. Sisu’s pretty good stuff

I actually really enjoyed that movie.

100%, movies are now way too long. Your story just straight up doesn’t need to be that long. IMO it actually usually takes away from the movie and doesn’t contribute to it.

I'm fine with movies over 2 hours, I barely noticed it with Mission Impossible.
What's too long are TV shows, I have people constantly recommending a series. I'll look it up and discover they're suggesting I watch a show with 10 episodes in a season each 50 mins long. And there are 6 seasons. That's around 50 hours and I know these people watch more than a couple in an evening. That's ####ing insane.

Haha that’s true, agreed. I’m actually good with about 2 hrs too. But once you start going north of 2.5 hrs it’s like mmmmmmkay, wrap er up.

Depending on the universe/franchise, sometimes I like a marathon if the payoff is worthwhile
Chris Nolan films get a pass
Tarantino films if they're good get a pass
Big crossover "events" like Avengers get a pass
Horror movies don't need to exceed 2h
Comedies don't need to exceed 2h
And most streaming drama shows don't either. Like I enjoyed the highlights of White Lotus but there are so many throwaway scenes and scenes intended (I assume) to build the atmosphere that end up making the length of the episodes exhausting. It's also wasting people's time which they won't get back because of lazy editing.
The Mandalorian I firmly believe was in part so well liked because of how slimmed down and to the point the episodes were.

I get sucked into a TV series here and there, most of the time it turns into a slog, the manipulative cliffhangers from episode to episode, meandering storylines with dead ends, different writers from season to season creating a mess with no cohesive vision. But I've ranted on that before. 50 hours of that, no thanks.

I don't know how people lead productive lives with multiple series of that length cutting into their schedule weekly.
I barely find the time and mental bandwidth to stay on top of life watching ~1 hour of TV a week.
But yeah, it seems like these shows purposefully meander and throw out red herrings left and right just to fill out 4-7 seasons of show that could feasibly be condensed into 2.

I can’t believe younger me actually thought this one was badass in the theatre. It’s like a parody of a John Woo movie. The cast of doves was bigger than the cast of humans. Did someone actually wear a mask on top of a mask in that one? And of course the Limp Bizkit soundtrack…like geez the Matrix already existed by that point and this is the best they could do
The Adam Clayton / Larry Mullen theme for MI1 still slaps tho

Watched the new mission impossible tonight. I really enjoyed the action sequences (probably about 80% of the movie). It didn’t feel too long to be honest. The story is needlessly convoluted and the bad guy… well sucks
Overall a good instalment into the franchise

I think that's where you see the largest seems between the movie Kubrick preconceived that Steven was realizing and well Steven Spielberg himself.
I caught Indy 5 last night. Maybe it will grow on me but I honestly think I may like Crystal Skull more. I'll take the big swings of that messy movie over something so incredibly meh.
Man, the state of modern blockbusters is so boring.
Spoilers for a cameo

5 and 6 stand above the rest and I hope for more of the same with 7.

The movie is total crap but I absolutely love Hans Zimmer's score for MI2.

Everyone should set some time aside in this crazy world to get nice and high and watch Cocaine Bear.

I dont have a problem with long movies so long as they continue to keep me engaged in the story.
For instance for the only time I can remember I was in the theater watching 'The Rise of Skywalker' and I literally checked my watch.
"Is this nonsense close to over yet? Because we jumped the shark like an hour ago."
And just as a fun story for laughs, I remember going to see 'The Green Mile' in theaters with a buddy and about 10 minutes after the previews he says:
"I gotta piss...naw, I can hold it."
I think he might have died from uromycitisis.

I'm disappointed there hasn't been discussion about the movie sound of freedom. The online discourse has been just riveting
