I would say Gulutzen has been a terrible development coach in general.
Tkachuk is his only real success and that was very likely to happen with any coach. Very possible that him constantly burying tkachuk with defensive responsibility has muted some of his offensive game (which pokes out sometimes and is just phenomenal). If he was used better it would be interesting to see if Matt could come close to ppg.

What examples are there of Gulutzan not developing players? I think Jankowski, Hathaway, Mangiapane, Kulak, Tkachuk, and Rittich have all been handled very well by him.

Too much? Seems fair to me. Flames get their sniper (cost controlled) and Ottawa gets a blue chip goalie prospect and the pick they'll no doubt want

No thanks to continually trading 1st round picks

What has he done with Rittich?
As for Kulak, both last year and this year, he has faded as the season went on. This year not as much as last year, to be sure. And fading happens to a lot of players. But I don't see a whole lot of 'developing'.
What has he done with Hathaway or Mangiapane?
Jankowski continues to develop well, that is for certain.

I’m talking about the way he has handled them. The roles he has put them in, the ice time he has given them, the situations he uses them in. I think all of those players are developing just fine under him.
It’s tough to say as fans because we only see what’s on the surface. We don’t know what goes in practice or behind the scenes. I just think taking the stance of Gulutzan being a terrible development coach is a very fair assessment.

well, mental toughness is different than grit...
certainly players that hate to lose are preferably to those that are mentally fragile

- Jury is still out on Janko- he's been hot and cold too.
- Kulak did not look good last season, this season has been better but he was still fighting with Bartkowski to start this year, that can't have been good for his confidence as bart is clearly dog ####.
- Hathaway looks like he's a 4th liner, but he looked like that before. I haven't seen any real growth or development. He was mostly in the pressbox last season, and was in the AHL in favor of Tanner Glass to start this season. That can't have helped him develop well.
- Rittich was reluctantly allowed to succeed. Not sure how he was developed by Glen
- see above comments on Tkachuk
I don't see much of anything inspiring. Simply graduating players from the AHL has nothing to do with Glen- that's more of a positive reflection of how far our development system has come. I haven't noticed any making notable strides towards greatness, most have flatlined after their initial excitement wore off, and the longer they're around Glen the worse they seem to do.

If we use the example of a guy like Quenneville, he brings players into the NHL and they preform better than what people expected, not the same or worse. Panarin, Saad, Duncan Keith, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Corey Crawford, etc. Those guys were all developed.

I don't quite understand why you are so reluctant to give GG any credit. Basically all of our younger players have played relatively well given the expectations on them. I fail to see how that makes him "terrible".
Of all the things to criticize him for this one just seems silly to me. It's like you have already made up your mind.

The only one we of these 8 we should consider moving on from would be Frolik and IMO we should keep all 8. This is a very good team and I would only trade or give away Stajan and/or Brouwer.

What? Panarin came over from Russia as a 24 year old and was immediately a stud, putting up 77 points. How is that an example of strong development from Quinville?

because your own definition of development was 'how he has handled them'. And you would have to agree that Quennville did a pretty good job handling Panarin.

Ferland?
As for Tkachuk I think he has the opportunity to be a very unique and special player with a very complete game. The investment in him with regards to defensive assignments and tough match ups is only going to pay dividends in the long run.
I would rather have a 60 points player who plays a 200 ft game, I can put on the ice with the teams other best line, and plays physical than a guy that puts up 75 points but I have to manage match-ups with.

Hathaway's AHL time this season seems to have done a lot, as a matter fact. I don't disagree that he's a fourth liner. But he's developed at least a little offensive awareness playing with Jankowski and Mangiapane in the AHL.

Okay if that is the criteria we are using then how is Gulutzan terrible? What would you be doing differently in regards to Tkachuk, Rittich, Jankowski, Kulak, etc?

I would honestly look at trading Brodie for some help in the top 6. Who knows but something needs to be done to fix that issue. We need a sniper bad for the PP.

Too much and a left shooting LW is not what we need.We already have arguably one of the deepest LW's in the league.

As soon as you said this all credibility to your post went out the window. Stone is a very physical D man, epic fail on your part.
