If its new and never been registered before you should not need the OOP.
But otherwise I think youre right.

It'd be a used one..
I've driven a BMW 440i, the Mercedes C43 and a Genesis G80 and G70.
I was actually pretty surprised with the G70, I don't think I'd be sad if I got one, and you can get newer and fewer kms for less $$ than the others. The G80 is nice but too big.
The BMW was nice and I'd be super happy with it, but I don't know was a little more raw (or maybe because I test drove a 2019 even though it only had 45k).
So I really like the Mercedes the most though I think out of those. The one I test drove looks like it's sold though.. my wife is in full "I told you to get it" mode. So have to keep an eye out for something similar.
The dark horse is the Volvo S60 Recharge, seems like the ultimate sleeper car lol. But not a single used one in Calgary to even test drive.

Hm what about a BMW i4? Save $200 a month in gas is nice and the price seems to be lower than a 440i..
It used to be that the EV versions of cars were more expensive than the ICE counterpart so it didn't really pay for itself over the long term but if they're the same price then it makes a lot more sense.
EDIT: Too bad the $5000 rebate isn't a thing anymore
EDIT2: Lol there's a $80k Audi eTron in Vancouver, so tempting.

Out of province inspection and final registration

I think it might not need OOP if it's within a few years from manufacture and unmodified, but I'd recommend you double check. Doesn't have to be brand, brand new, but my memory on this is hazy.
You also want the dealership to help fill in some paperwork to not charge you PST if the plan is to immediately bring it back to Alberta.

I drove both an Audi and the i4 in the past couple of weeks. The Audi was a couple years older, but I just didn’t love it. The BMW on the other hand was awesome.

How old was the Audi? They're going downhill pretty fast, and have even admitted that cheaping out on interiors has gone too far.
Found an Australian news link so no US outlets get our clicks:
https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...improve-report
The new Audi badges are just so egregiously bad I don't know if I could get over it, no matter how nice the rest of the car may be (which they aren't right now anyway):

Bah, our one vehicle got keyed at some point this week. No clue when it could have happened as we are “park in the middle of nowhere” people, but it’s quite deep, so I think we’ll have to get it fixed professionally. Any one have recommendations for an auto body place?

I test drove an Hyundai Ioniq 6 today, figured that it's right in the price range and stuff, it has 300+hp with the dual motor config.
It was interesting.. it's not half bad, feels very quick. Handling didn't feel as good as the others I've tried but wasn't as bad as I might have thought.
I do like having somewhat less prevalent cars and the Ioniq 6 would certainly match that. I like the look.
But it felt pretty bland overall.
I'm sure the i4 is much better than the Ioniq 6 but I'm not sold on the driving enjoyment of an EV now. I thought the instant torque would appeal to me and it does, but I didn't think I'd miss the interactivity and noise of the engine but I think I did. I didn't expect that.

It was 5 years old, which just doesn’t feel that old, but it just wasn’t that nice. It drove OK, but it was electric and had a weird buzz/whine. I just overall didn’t love it.

We are awaiting delivery of a GV70. We must have test drove every small to mid size suv out there over the last few months. Something about the GV70 that I really liked. Fun to drive 3.5l V6. *edit - just noticed you are talking about the G70 not the GV70
I'm actually about to put my 2019 440i on the market if you're interested lol.

On the noise of the engine, BMW (and others) have added sounds that pipe in for that exact reason. BMW has "iconic sounds" and I know that Porsche has this as well. The idea is that this is somewhat simulated engine noise, presumably because people miss that aspect of driving an EV.

Sound deadening has gotten to the point that a lot of sporty cars now play engine noise over the sound system.
I thought this was the dumbest thing ever until I realized that some inner 16 year old still wants a nice sounding exhaust but my outer adult wants to draw absolutely no attention towards myself or intrude on people's peace and quiet. I turned it back on a after initially disabling it

Yeah...that always reminds me of Top Gear/Grand Tour...."we've got a tunnel boys! Hit it!!"

Ok, I'll admit I may intrude on people's peace and quiet just a tiny bit going through tunnels.

When I'm driving my Mustang I may, on occasion, gear down and hit it through tunnels...
Maybe...sometimes...occasionally...always.... h34 r:
