We should stick to the new NHL team model which is
Big.
Strong.
FAST.
Players that won't be worn down mentally or physically from a hard checking, hard hitting, hard skating 7 game series.
I like the suggestion of Chris Krieder

I'm also in favour of adding more truculence.
There'll surely be a lot of wear and tear battling the big boys on the Ducks and Jets in this years playoffs.

Would love Chris Kreider but he has a modified NTC so we might be on that list. He might be buddies with Johnny and maybe that could be a factor, also what would we give up to NYR and could we can fit him in our salary cap for next year considering Chucky is in for a big raise?
Couple guys I wouldn't mind acquiring to play on the line with Backs and Chucky:
Kevin Hayes (UFA)
Gustav Nyquist (UFA)
Marcus Johansson (UFA IR right now)
Ryan Dzingel (UFA)
Andre Burakovsky (RFA but might be able to benefit from change of scenery. Rasmus Anderssons BFF as well)
Won't happen but would be great if we could get them:
Matt Duchene (UFA Kings ransom)
Mark Stone (UFA Kings ransom)
Eberle (UFA NYI still fighting for a playoff spot)
Skinner (UFA Buf still fighting for a playoff spot and might possibly hate Bill Peters or vice versa)

Marcus Johansen if he can be had and can be healthy for a playoff run would ba a big time get. Good #2 C. His health though. Scares the bejesus out of me. But could also be a lower price tag. I mean we need him for 25 or so games. If the Flames can get that out of him it'd be worth it. More Swedes!

Marcus Johansson doesn't play center. He's almost entirely a left wing I believe.

Used to play center in Washington. He can play the position. He's just a LW in Jersey.

He also played center in Washington for a bit. I believe he was selected as center for Team Sweden over Backlund the one year as well.

Point being. I'd be looking for multi positional Lindholm types. More diversity.
So guys like Nyquist, Johansson, Duchene would be the top of my list. All can play wing or C.

I suspect Skinner will most likely end up re-signing. He's having his best season and he gets to play with Eichel. Hard to give that up and Buffalo is not a team historically shy in paying big.

I don't think there has ever been an era where big, strong, fast players weren't coveted.
I'm glad that the Flames relaxed their standard for, inter alios, Johnny.

I'd like to see some 2004 type additions. By that I mean nothing super flashy, but good depth utility players that can chip in when needed. Nilson, Simon, Niemminen, those were all great adds and they were cheap, I think the highest thing given up was a 2nd rounder.
Also if he could swing a similar trade to that one we had in November that year.. whatever his name was, Kypreos? Kappenen? Kipprusoff? That was good to.

What about a guy like Andreas Athanasiou? He's on a bargain contract with 1 more year, so he may cost way too much but he plays RW and has speed to keep up with this group.

I wouldn't mind switching out Frolík and Czarnik for a couple of those names mentioned.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Nyquist
Johansson - Jankowski - Neal
Bennett - Ryan - Hathaway

Athanasiou has taken an enormous step this season. Highly doubt Detroit deals him, they likely value him very highly.

-20 in just 29 games .. I think there are better options than Zuccarello personally.
