Treliving went out of his way to say that there was a lot of "incorrect speculation" out there in his interview with Steinberg today.
Did that make Lebrun mad

Forsberg would be a decent Tkachuk replacement just because I think he would stick to playing hockey in the post-season and not abandon that to chase guys around and start fights.
I've found that the pest thing is only an effective tool in the regular season. Maybe in a game 1 to set the tone but beyond that you just want guys to bear down and play.
Tkachuk threw himself off of his own game, and was hardly provoked, if at all.

oh my it will be quite a scenario if we replace Gaudreau with Kadri and we are surprised when Kadri returns to 45 points next season

Probably hence the phone remark.
Probably thinks the people putting these tweets out there have no effing clue.
I think a lot of media people are channeling their inner Weekes on this one. I still can't buy into Johnny bailing on this core/group and his best friends and linemates.
He's been away from home in the winters since his teenage years. I doubt its something he's pining for when he's out there from may to August already. He's probably more than comfortable with the lifestyle he's been leading. He's too loyal a person to *his* team (something he stresses the importance of in nearly every interview).
I don't see it. However, I do see him using his great season to play hardball with the Flames and get his due. He took about a 1M haircut last time relative to his market value if we're completely honest.

One of my big concerns is, will ownership be willing to step up and let Treliving go as high as he’d like? Only based off of one possibly meaningless interview with Ferraro.

I really believe flames are going to re-sign both of them.

There are degrees of interest, and there is no indication he would write CGY off completely as an option.
The question is what premium might he need to stay and/or what discount might he take for the right place. Hard to actually make that detirmination until you have specific (or at least more specific) offers in front of him.
Nobody knows how much tampering goes on, but I doubt anything detailed happens until the 11th or 12th (if not the 13th). No other team’s world will revolve around the possibility of hopefully maybe signing Johnny until then.

Well, that's dumb. I disagree profusely that Calgary is so desperate that they will give Gaudreau whatever he wants. Both sides are actually playing this pretty smart by not prematurely panicking. I believe his first choice is to stay with the Flames, and they are negotiating like grownups.

Why? Flames has been a cap team like forever. Why would they care how much Treliving is signing Johnny to? They spent to the cap anyway, it's not like NHL is without salary cap.

There are a number of reasons why it makes sense for him to not have signed yet. Calgary not having a choice but to pay him (within reason) what he wants being at the top of that list.

They should. It makes more sense to over pay your top guys by a half mill to a mill than having over paid leadership on the 3rd and 4th lines.

What possible reason would the Gaudreau camp have for panicking? Remember this isn’t exactly a negotiation. They know they will have multiple suitors and I suspect there is more than one team that will make Gaudreau happy.

Well, if you take the angle that Gaudreau really does want to stay here over go anywhere else and the things the Flames can offer that others can’t means something to him, then he also has to stay cool. IF that’s the case, the Flames can up the pressure by waiting and putting in a bigger offer near the end, giving Gaudreau less time to weigh it against the potential of what’s out there.
I’m guessing the Flames will break first anyway, but if Gaudreau wants to stay and at the same time wants the best deal he can get from the Flames, he needs to keep composure anyway.
If both the Flames and Gaudreau want a contract done, then it is absolutely a negotiation on pretty even terms.

I don’t know. Ferraro said it. So naturally, that idea slowly festered in my brain. Whether it has any merit, is beyond me. I’m still in the Johnny will sign camp. Just a few moments of weakness.

At what point if you are the Flames and Johnny and decide to get this done so you don't screw your team over with this waiting game. Treliving might have been more active at the draft if this was done.
Johnny has been offered a rumored 8 years $9.5 mil contract. If Johnny came back and said $11 mil and Brad offered him the $10 mil he kind of hinted at I bet they could settle on $10.5 mil. If Johnny went to free agency maybe he could get the Flames up to $11 mil or even more but I really don't think the money has anything to do with it.
Signing close to home and winning IMO is what he is deciding on. Even if he prefers to stay in Calgary rather than play close to home I still would struggle to think the Flames will win a cup before he retires. Too many other teams have it better than we have it so if that is the case might as well play close to home or chase a cup with a team that might actually win it. But I'm sure he is struggling as he has had such a great career here and it would be hard to leave a place you have played your whole career for

He will be the franchise all time leading scorer if he does.
But if you were him and you desperately wanted a cup. Would you pick Calgary knowing that other players typically don't?
