Yah, today's drive in to work was pretty good. I was anticipating another bad day, but roads were relatively clear and people in general were not as bad as yesterday. Maybe all the strugglers from yesterday got spooked or their cars are already in a ditch from yesterday?
Studies show that pedestrians are highly likely to survive collisions at 30 and highly unlikely at 50. The WHO also recommends 30 in any areas where pedestrians and vehicles regularly mix. These are very valid and full of merit, sorry that you’re wrong though. In areas with heavy pedestrian presence, it’s the best choice based on health and science.
Good luck with compliance and zero design changes, since that apparently has zero bearing in this discussion.
In regards to inconvenience, the next time a car rips by me at 110 in Deerfoot's 80 zones, which is many many many cars on a daily basis, I'll be sure to yell out the window to them that they are not, in fact, inconvenienced by the 80 zone and should slow down because a guy name PepsiFree said so.

"Don't be a kunt"

They should slow down because that’s the law.
If people want to feel inconvenienced because they can’t rip through a playground zone at 80 then that’s good for them, but we should base laws off safety and the recommendations of experts in that field, as opposed to the whims and emotions of adult babies that have no respect for other people.
If a speed limit is 30 and some people get a ticket for going 40-50 that’s safer than a speed limit of 50 where less people get a ticket for going 60-70.
Luckily the "experts" don't settle for "slow down because it's the law" and instead implement traffic calming measures which is all that's being suggested here anyway.

Great, so lower the limit and add more measures to keep people at that limit.
Nah we disagree with the notion that making people's commutes take longer is not an inconvenience, even if in the name of safety.
Every driver still gets to decide what does and doesn't annoy them.
We also agree there. There are a lot of entitled snowflakes on the road that can find all sorts of meaningless things to call inconveniences and get annoyed about.
“Pedestrians should be personally accountable for their own safety? Ok Boomer.”
Locke is right. You only have the right of way if you establish it. Walking blindly into a crosswalk whilst on your phone is poor judgement despite the law saying you have the right of way.

Agree 100%.
I wish incidents were reported more honestly as well. How often should “pedestrian struck” actually be “dumbass staring at their phone stepped into traffic”.
I saw an idiot jogging on the Deerfoot the other week. No idea what his situation was, but had he been hit, it would have been “Pedestrian killed.” implying a driver was the problem.
Well that was cool. The ice fog just melted. It like turned into a mist and fell like a light rain for like 60 seconds, then all of a sudden it's clear. I've never seen that before
