Not sure if this got posted here but an interesting read.
https://www.mlb.com/news/explaining-...ng-2023-season
Most shocking thing is of mlb qualified players Vlad is second lowest in average distance on barrelled contact. Which is why we see a bunch of singles or lined out to fielders instead of home runs. Pretty crazy for a guy with that much strength. Maybe a spin issue but it’s puzzling all around.

Oh also the rumour is going around that Manoah is refusing to report to Buffalo. If so then that doesn’t look good for him. Shows up unprepared for the year and then complains when he gets demoted for sucking.

There were reports from various reporters including either Davidi or Zwelling (can't remember which one) that Manoah being sent down was more not needing a six man rotation with all the short series and days off they've had these last two weeks than it was based on performance.
I wouldn't be surprised if that's why he hasn't been sent down to Buffalo and that he'll be "called up" in the coming days with the schedule being more heavy again. Maybe they would rather work with him directly than send him to Buffalo.

Where are you seeing/hearing this? I saw someone post that in another site but had no backup for it and they just assumed that must be the case. I’m not sure what to believe on this one, it actually seems a bit unlikely to me.

Yeah, all I've seen on Twitter is a couple of people assuming that's why he isn't in Buffalo.

Apparently it was based off some comments Dan Shulman was making during sundays broadcasf. I wasn’t watching the game so can only second hand comment.

In terms of credibility, this is like hearing someone whisper about a rumour in the line to get into a mall to then get into an Orange Julius line. Pretty thin.
I still think it is likely uncertainty about a starter’s health…maybe Gausman…and they want to keep Manoah fresh if he was needed.

People said the same thing about Sutter and the locker room last year. Where there is smoke there is often fire. It wouldn’t surprise me given what else we know about Manoah. Regardless with Ryu back there is no reason to pitch Manoah unless you are playing some C level team he can do okay against. I have zero faith in him providing any positive value the rest of the year. Have him take the year off and come back next year fresh. I’d rather run Francis out there as the sixth starter.

Except there is no smoke. Having a player assigned for a short period of time, but not actually report down, is very common - especially with pitchers, and considering the current circumstances. Unless you actually HAVE some smoke to add, there isn't any.
As to the second bold, this is more likely what this is about - you are projecting your bias onto the situation. Manoah needs to work through his issues - this is very common with young pitchers, and the Jays will do whatever they think is necessary, in order to help him along. You spewing rumours, because you are bitter about his performance this year, adds nothing.

Two years ago: Berrios is garbage!
Last year: Kikuchi is garbage!
This year: Manoah is garbage!
(same applies with Bichette, Vladdy, Springer, Kirk, Belt, Varsho...)

Well.... they were garbage so there's that? Also, Berrios was last year too.

Berrios was more last year.
2 years ago was Roark. Remember that guy? He actually was garbage.

Point is that fans have no patience, and little understanding that players have good years and bad years.
Also yes, Roark WAS garbage!

All he said is he's not in Buffalo yet as they are figuring what the next steps are. No speculation that he has refused to report. I think fans are just taking what was said and taking a leap with it. Not that it's impossible that he could be refusing to report, but I think it's pure speculation.

Nah not this really. Even when he was good last year I’ve never liked him. I just think his on the mound antics are really immature. Him yelling at players and swearing at them after strike outs rubbed me the wrong way. He’s by far my least favorite player on the team and he was that last year too for me when he was a Cy Young candidate. Anyway the source I had re the Manoah thing is credible but I’ll ping him for more details. I’m guessing we’ll find out one way or another soon enough.

Speaking of Roark, and with Dejong being DFA'd this weekend, got me thinking about who were some of the worst Jays of all time. Roark and Dejong will be up there. Bradley Zimmer will get some love. Although he did hit a game winning homerun and could fly around the bases. Josh Johnson would be up there for me. What a disaster he was. Brad Hand is another notable name who was a complete disaster. Kyle Drabek was such a highly touted pitcher and the cornerstone of the Doc trade. He was pretty terrible. I know there's lots and lots out there. Would love to hear some more examples.

In recent history, Roark and Hand are probably the two worst. They weren't just bad, they were also adamant they weren't bad.
