I feel like I'm constantly defending City employees here, but believe me - that cliche is tired and overworked. There are plenty of hard-working people who have ALOT on their plate and are going as fast as they can to do a good job for both internal clients and citizens alike.
There are those types who just give up and don't care, but that exists in both the public and private sector. Maybe somewhat more in the public sector, but its not a problem exclusive to government work.
Oh I believe you. I'm aware of some who really work their asses off every day at the City. Unfortunately, they aren't common, and they aren't the people I'm trying to contact on a regular basis. I have had many experiences with City employees who are quite the opposite of these hard workers, though.
My statement was probably to generalized though, so that would be my bad.
It's not going to be that tough, because Nenshi is really only behind by around 6 points. A large percentage of the population 18-35 hasn't been polled accurately based on land line only polling.
It will be tough, a large percentage of the population never votes.... Especially that age bracket.
I would bet Nenshi has no chance at being elected. Its a 2 person race which will be close right till the end.
Very interesting that the CP community has Nenshi with such a huge lead. I bet 50% of the people on this site won't even vote.

On the site as a whole sure, but the people who actually come into this thread and vote for the poll is probably a lot higher then that. I would say 85-90% of the people who voted in this poll will vote.
If it truly is the boomers voting for Higgins/McIver then Nenshi's only hope is for them to split the old vote and come up the middle.
Just too many boomers and not enough young'uns. The demographics aren't in Nenshi's favour.
Still have my fingers crossed though. The boomers aren't voting as a block. Furthermore, Twitter demographics are actually more like 25-40 than 18-28 so while Nenshi has the youth vote I think he must have an older base as well.
Nothing to back this up, just kind of how I feel about it...It really isn't that surprising that Gen Y tends not to get involved in politics. We tend to get overpowered by the old guard.

How do you pronounce Naheed? 66 CFR constantly pronounces it Na HEAD, so maybe I have been saying it wrong in my HEAD. Maybe Jiri can clarify this?
He should release a video of people pronouncing his name so that we all know how to say it. This is the internet age and he is the king of social media, after all.

He needs to be busing Uni students from campus and their dorms to the voting station. Kick their ass off the bong for few minutes and pause Dexter.

I bet there are people who voted that don't even live in the City...
Anyhow should be interesting.
In today's Calgary Sun, it lists Higgins as the front runner with 37%, McIver at 34% and Nenshi at 24% (with a margin of error of 4%).
I'd love it if I could meet some CP'ers! I've been involved in setting up a meet and greet for Nenshi tomorrow night at 5:30 at Club Sapien. Although it is a gay club but it is open to anyone to come out. Sapien has a lounge feel and has great food! It is where Mile One used to be - 11th St and 10th Ave SW.

I got polled on my cellphone. Of course, I'm one of those idiots that signed up for the do not call list.

My gut tells me that a lot of the 25-35 would either vote for McIver or Higgens. While the 18 to 25 group if they can be convinced to put down their bongs and turn off Dexter would vote for Nenshi.
When you have an perceived inaccuracy in polling in a municiple election, I almost write off half of that group as non voters.
Should be interesting, I would prefer to see a fresh face running the city. McIver really lost my vote when he sided against the city auditor, I'm still not sure if I'm sold on Nemshi, because I keep having flash backs to the Obama campaign, and I wonder about his level of execution combined with his lack of experience.
I can't vote for Higgin's because I like substance in my candidates.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but he does have a youtube video on how to pronounce his name.

Yup, it is pronounced 'Na-Head'.
