What does your lineup look like and what kind of system do you play?
My team currently looks like this:
Samsonov - Backstrom - Bergfors
Wolski - Duchene - Skille
Morin - Turris - C.Stewart
WHL-WHL-WHL
Gio - Regehr
Gormley - Guddbranson
Martin - Salvador
Kipper/Varmlamov - 55 Goalie
I score most of my goals via breakaways (even though it's a lot tougher now than before) and i invest heavy into +5skating boosts for all my forwards.

I won the elite playoff thing last playoffs (I assume multiple people do every month) and I got a boatload of pucks (15,000) from that. I got Varlomov and pumped him up to a 98 by buying consumable packs. Then I put some 55OV slug in the backup position with the lowest contract possible and never put any consumables on him so the contract doesn't go up.
Up front, my lines are:
Kostitsyn-Giroux-Backes
Parise - Tavares - Kane
I keep my second as the second line, even though they're my first. That way when people see my lineup, they only see the first line. They always quit when they see a line of 97-98-95
Kane I bought with pucks for around 8k and he was already pumped up with consumables.
My third line is generally in the 80s. Right now, I'm a little cap struck so I have a couple guys on wing at 84 and the C is 87.
My fourth line is all 55 players at 600 contracts. I never, ever ever play my fourth line. Sometimes the game automatically puts them out after a whistle, but every whistle I manage my lines so they rarely get out there. If they do, I just fold defensively and change as soon as possible.
For D, I have Bouwmeester and some rookie on line 1.
I have shane obrien on my second pairing and another D man at 90ov on the right... I switch my D so often I forget who i have on there.
For my third line, I have a couple no-name guys at around 78. They rarely play too, but they get a lot more ice time than my fourth line players.
As for strategy, I always start the game with staggered D, and the middle choices for all offensive / defensive strategies.
If I get scored on or things just aren't progressing, Ill up my forward strategies to the max. I rarely up my defensive offensiveness because they get waaaay too many odd-man breaks that sooner or later will count for goals, no matter how terrible the team is.
Always crash the net when their goalie gets it. I'd say I score usually 1-2 goals every 2-3 games this way per game until they figure it out. There's usually a side they always pass to or anticipate where their d-men are and where the pass is likely to go. 90% of players don't hold the puck with the goalie.
Line 1 is always on Overload
Line 2 is always on Crash the net
Line 3 is always on behind the net.
Face offs are key. It's like rock-paper-scissors.
No hand beats back hand
back hand beats forehand
fore hand beats no hand.
(** I think **)
Anyway, I beat quite a few 97O 95D 90G teams last night. They stack their teams but can't handle a ton of pressure and just because they have an all-star team, doesn't mean they're good.
As well, hitting after the whistle is great too. It builds confidence in the team and intimidates their. So always try and lay someone out. Take a D man and find a small forward. Works great.
Other than that.. that's about the book on me.
Really, the key is faking out the D men. You can do it pretty easily. You've just got to figure out if they're a sit back D team or they try and nail you at the blueline every time. Most of my success comes from deking out the d men and faking them out. Not always the rb + up deke or whatever, just moving the stick around, if that makes sense. Basically, you can go between 2 d-men and not lose the puck if you time it right. People don't expect it. Or, go to the wing and pull it back, put on the brakes and give it to the guy trailing.
I had a guy apparently youtube'ing me the other night. He had a team that was like 70OV. I don't mind playing the crappy teams because you get much more pucks when you dominate. Anway, the opening face off, he wins and goes back into his zone and plays keep away. I assume it's he's waiting for the 18 min mark so I dont quit.
He carries on and I'm forced to try and make him turn it over. I get too aggressive, he passes it up and gets a 2-on-1 and scores. For the rest of the 1st and 2nd, he just plays keep away. I'm furious.
He wasn't that good and when his players got tired, I managed to strip the puck and tie the game.
The next shift, I won the faceoff, go down and make it a 2-1 game.
The next shift, I win the faceoff and I return the favour and play keep away and he quits.
He writes me this profanity laced text message about how I'm so brutal, how I was going to be on youtube because he bet a friend that he could beat a "stacked" team with an out-of-the-box team.
It was funny. He really didn't clue in that playing keep away isn't "beating" anyone. It was a joke. But I would have been pissed if I hadn't stripped the puck and won.
I get so much hate text it's hilarious.
