Salary cap in the Canadian Football League
On June 13, 2006, a proposed salary management system featuring a Maximum Salary Expenditure Cap (SEC) was ratified at the Canadian Football League board of governors meeting in Winnipeg, Manitoba. [2] The CFL began enforcing strict salary cap regulation for the 2007 season, which was set at $4.05 million with a salary floor of $3,746,250 (92.5% of the cap); the cap will be set at $4.25 million for the 2010 season, with a salary floor of $3,931,250. [3]
Penalties for teams found to have breached the salary cap or salary floor regulations are fines of the amount involved for the first $100,000, fines of double the amount involved and forfeiture of the first-round draft pick for the next $200,000, and fines of triple the amount involved and forfeiture of the first and second-round draft picks for any amount in excess of $300,000. [4].
[edit] Breaches
The following breaches of the salary cap have occurred (no team has yet been penalized for violating salary floor regulations)[11]:
- In 2007, the Montreal Alouettes were fined $116,570 and forfeited a first-round draft pick after a CFL investigation found that they had exceeded the salary cap by $108,285 during the season.
- The Saskatchewan Roughriders were also fined in 2007 ($76,552) for a string of minor breaches in relation to benefit payments to injured players.
- In 2008, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were fined $87,147 after it was found that they had exceeded the salary cap by that amount during the season.
- In 2009, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were fined $44,687 for minor breaches in relation to player bonuses.

Salary cap is basically $1 for every dollar you are over up to $100,000, then $2 for every dollar between $100,000-$300,000 plus first round draft pick, then $3 for every dollar over $300,000 plus first and second round draft pick.
I'm not sure if it's a graduated scale, or if you are over 300,000 for instance, you get charged $3 for all of that 300,000 or $1 for the first 100 then $2 for the next 200 then $3 for everything above 300.

Which is more likely? Cornish or Reynolds getting injured in a game, or Lumsden getting injured while on the practice roster? I sort of think it's the latter. I don't think the Stamps risk a lot in signing him to the PR, and he is probably a better insurance policy than Rafael Little. I'm guessing his paycheque is pretty small... probably a lot smaller than what Winnipeg was offering.

Based on the wiki quote I'd guess that you only get charged $3 for every dollar over $300,000. Mtl was 108k over and had 116k in penalties.

The kicker is if Lumsden sign with the Stamps, he will be eligible to get a bonus money if the Stamps win the Grey Cup. Another is he will be able to train for the bobsled while in Calgary.
I am still opposed in signing this guy. He'll probably play for a game or two then go down with the injury.

I wouldn't usually bother posting about this, but does Milt Stegall have a malfunction when it comes to the Stampeders?
I'm trying to remember if there was anything Calgary did to him other than steal his Grey Cup ring in 2001.
But he seems to be openly hateful towards this football team - picked them to lose to Edmonton the last couple weeks and just said on the pregame (which i don't usually watch) - "Saskatchewan is winning this football game and they win the West"
Maybe he is just trying to play devils advocate to the others, but why is it always concerning the Stamps? He really seems to actually hate them.

Grr.... TSN's "CFL on Demand" would play the first, second and third quarters of the BC-Tabbys game, but the 4th quarter won't play.

Bit of both probably. Remember it's tv. Someone has to take the underdog.

He picked Calgary to finish last in the West, he picked them to lose to Edmonton last week. He picked them to lose to the Riders and he has the Riders winning the division right now.

Kicking the crap out of Edmonton isn't so special when everyone else does it too.
