I'll do quotes for people not following along.

"Steve: The iPhone 4 is perhaps our best product. We've sold over 3,000,000 since we launched just three weeks ago."

Steve: We heard about this not long after we started shipping. We've been working our butts off for 22 days. 22 days. It's not like we've had our head in the sand for 3 months

I guess the engineer that claimed that there would be problems before the thing even shipped was lying.

He's showing a video of the Blackberry 9700. It's got near full signal; its gripped, and the bars drop down to one. "Pretty much identical to the videos on the web"

What a load of crap. I realize that the problem with the antenna has been overblown. Completely overblown. But it is still a problem, and Apple needs to fix it. Not show the whole world that other phones have the same problem.

We do a lot of testing. Jobs shows their testing rooms. "We've invest over 100 million dollars in these rooms". "The iPhone 4 went through all of these tests. We KNEW that if you held it in a certain way, the bars would go down."

2) Some really important data from AppleCare. In addition to us solving their problem, their problems are solved. We asked ourselves: Whats the percentage of all iPhone 4 users who have called about antenna or reception?

Pretty much saying the whole thing is overblown.

Well if only one half of one percent of users that call in call in about a specific thing, I would say that's pretty much the definition of overblown.

"the iphone drops less than 1 additional call per 100"

They've marketed their products as reliable and stable. Immune to bugs and system crashes. Far better designed than everyone else's. Magical.
It's been effective and got them a long ways but now when things go wrong, and they always will, they are being held to those promises. They've made their bed and now they have to lie in it.

The only reason its overblown is because of the way Apple and Jobs responded to that half of one percent of iPhone 4 owners who complained.

Steve reiterates the point: "Less than one. Even that's too much for us. I have my own pet theory on this: when the iPhone 3GS came out, we didn't change the design. There were a number of cases available, on day one. The iPhone 4 has a radically new design, so none of the cases fit, and we can't make enough of our bumper cases."

Hardly the only reason, but it does contribute I'm sure.
Still doesn't make it right to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
