I'm not worried about their defense or 3rd and 4th lines. It is the top 2 lines that I am worried about. If you give Ovechkin, Malkin, Datsyuk, Kovalchuk or Semin chances, they will score on their opportunities.

Kind of mirrors team Canada pretty well. The defence isn't too much to worry about. But if you give Staal, Crosby, Iginla or Heatley chances, they'll bury it.

Don't know why this hasn't been talked about more, The Russians haven't looked like the best team in this tournament at all.

They have up a ton of chances to Latvia, they lost to the Slovaks, and they got lucky on an early whistle on what should have been a Czech goal or that game is tied in the 3rd.

I think its going to be a great game, they are Canada's biggest rival and its one of the best international rivalries in sport

gonna be fantastic

I have a slightly off topic question:

I have only been watching CTV for the hockey games, and I'm a little surprised at the lack of "analysis" that the talking heads get to do, it seems that they only get about 30 seconds before the game and between periods (mostly dominated by Kypreos that hack)

Has TSN or sportsnet dedicated more time to analysis?

I'm just a little surprised given the numerous Hockey centric analysts they have to go along with the attention on Mens Hockey, that there isn't more analysis.

I'm not begging for more Kypreos, just wondering.

I wouldn't say that. I think our depth at forward is much better then Russia's). Also our defense is way better. They might have 1 defenseman that could make team Canada.

I think they're dedicating the time between periods to reporting on what else is going on at the games. Plus the intermissions seem to be a bit shorter than in the NHL.

I wouldn't rest any hopes on Russia not showing up. Russia has a history in all international tournaments of coasting during prelim games, or games of little importance only to ramp it up when the games matter.

Russia will be ready for this game you can count on it.

Due to the massive amount of coverage the networks have dedicated to other events, I believe that there is a significant amount of coverage online after the game that is exclusive to the interwebs.

Intermissions are only 15 minutes long, I believe they are 18 or 19 minutes in the NHL.

On paper before the tourney started, I liked our defense a lot more than I do at this point.

More Kypreos would be better than more Darren Pang and definitely better than more Pierre "science experiment" Mcguire...

That is a fair point. But that has also made guys step up. Shea Weber, Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith and Dan Boyle have been Canada's 4 best defenseman so far (in that order IMO).

I am a little concerned about Drew Doughty and Dan Boyle against the powerful Russian forwards. Doughty has been incredible thus far, so hopefully that concern is baseless, but when Boyle is on the ice I don't want to see the Russians with the puck.

I agree Pang is annoying and some things he says come way out of left field. I however like Mcguire, he seems to have a genuine passion for whats going on (Charlie Simmer should take some notes).....

Unlike Kypreos much of what Mcguire says is more over the top than completely wrong....I don't really have a problem with that

I think he walks the line between passionate and annoying, and does a pretty good job of it.

Neither were the Swiss or the Americans, but we know how those turned out.

Russia is better than both, IMO, and I don't have a ton of faith in this team and coaching to be able to overcome adversity.

We will see.

No doubt. They haven't been very good. Before tonight, not a single goal. That's not great, but worse is they haven't been physical enough, and where is that vaunted Pronger dirtiness when I actually cheer for him? He's only tried to hurt one guy, and that was a lame crosscheck that he took a stupid penalty for.

I remember in the second period against the Swiss I was ranting and screaming that we should have Luongo on and Crosby on with Iginla. Nobody said anything, nobody even recognized it, I love to say it, I ING TOLD EVERYONE!!!!!!! I felt like I was taking god damned crazy pills.
