speaking of roughing the goalie, I 'poked' the goalie just like I did in '09 everytime the goalie had it in case he bobbled it and it might go in, well anyway this was during a penalty shot, just doing it cause I was pissed he saved it...got a roughing call
didn't know it was possible to get a penalty, during a penalty shot, I was shocked!

Ha, I got one too. It was months ago, but I had a penalty shot, was pissed and then poked him like 15 times and got a penalty. Me and friends all laughed for the rest of the game, well we still laugh about it.

Is it just me, or does this game call a LOT of penalties? I've got penalties on the lowest setting(aside from being "off" of course), and I still get like 5-6 a game. What drives me crazy is the computer uses hooks and pokes 10 times more than I do, but when they do it, its this precise, perfect little poke or hook that frees up the puck. But when I do it, its this vicious, foot-swiping poke or a hook that takes his arm off. How do you do a gentle poke/hook?? Do you have to aim it? Or is the computer just being gay?
The most annoying thing is the computer is way hackier than me, yet they probably get a penalty maybe once every 3-4 games.

Don't most teams real life teams take 5-6 penalties a game? Maybe i have been watching the Flames for too long....

True, but these games take 15min to play. So it basically equates to spending almost half the game in the box. I'd say average in these games is taking 1-2 per game. I just finished a game and got 3 separate penalties in the last 10min of the 3rd, and all I did was use the hook button once when the comp does it 100 times to me and (almost)never gets called. Guess I've just gotta get used to the game, '09 you could get away with waaay more.

check your sliders, you can control the amount of your teammates getting penalties, and your opponents.
I found that my cpus were getting all the penalties so i turned them off for that

hey Sainters7, try the "interference" call, seems to be more choose-ie than stick infractions, I get away with many interference calls heeheehee *crunch*

I hate my team-mates. Every last one of them, okay we get that you don't like a specific player on the other team but that does not mean you can skate to the other end of the ice to slash him and get a game misconduct!

here's a couple things i think are stupid about the game:
in the loading screen before the game starts, EA added the panel that is 'EA news.' thats a great idea, yet the only news i ever see is 'october EASHL champions crowned' or 'november EASHL champions crowned.' its ridiculous. i think 99% of us realize that every month there will be an EASHL champion, thats not exactly news. why not actually put helpful messages out there? they could talk about roster updates, tuner updates, and all kinds of stuff. but instead its a totally wasted feature.
post whistle scrums just make me mad. first off, i hate that if i do start some crap, all the computer players instantly pair off and cross check the living daylights out of each other. heck, i will start a fight just to keep from having to play 4 on 4 because of roughing calls on the computer. there is no sort of scrum around the net after a whistle. they should really work on that logic. additionally, if i do have a tough guy on the ice, i can rarely get to him, as the change player button just goes between the 2 guys closest to the puck. so i try to frantically skate away from the puck with everyone until i can find the tough guy. usually by the time i can do that the post whistle time is over. just makes the whole concept silly.

The fighting is ridiculously easy. I can take Mcgrattan with Tanguay. Players that never fight, nor get involved in scrums should have AI that keeps them from going crazy when your grinders bump people after the whistle.

I hate the scrum system. I understand what they are getting at, but you're right, it doesn't make sense if I slash the goalie for the other team to start attacking my players that aren't even near the play. It should really turn into a ball of dudes all writhing around in a non-homosexual way.
Hopefully next year this is addressed. I've turned the ref reaction to minimal on this ... it was way too easy to draw out a powerplay. Want a powerplay? just take a shot at the goalie and let the computer obliterate you. It was too easy.

yeah i agree, there is a lot of potential with finally allowing this post whistle stuff. i just hope it doesnt take them 3 more years to get the kinks worked out.
i also agree it can be easy to draw a powerplay. but i find that often times my dumb teammates take a penalty too and it goes 4 on 4. the part where i usually take advantage is if my team takes a penalty, i will start stuff because 99% of the team the ref only makes 1 call and it ends up as 4 on 4 instead of PK.

Question about the game (Sorry if it's a fata. The search function yielded nothing):
It's been ~60 days since I got the game, and now I'm getting "Disk Unreadable" errors when I try to boot up the game. It recognizes the disk just fine, but I can't get into the main menu. Being the Xbox n00b that I am, I never installed the game on the hard drive, so I can't put in a wratched up disk and play. Anyways, I proceed to Google solutions and get answers such as "Unplug, then replug the HDD", "Clear the Cache", and "Clean the fataing disk". I try all of them, but they all fail completely. My last ditch effort was to try installing from the damaged disk, but it freezes at 43% and states that the disk is then unreadable.
And of course, the 360 runs any other game just fine. Just not NHL 10.
Anybody have the same problem? Or (even better yet), anybody have solutions that don't involve me draining more money in exchange (I highly doubt EB games will let me exchange it)?

Might be the case of the CD being the problem rather then anything you can do to the system.
In case you guys don't know already, a new tuner update is in order to come for January.

I've used the paper trick on my xbox for gears of war 2 for like a year. All I did was rip off half a page from the back of the game's manual, and then close the drive with the game inside, and the paper on top of the game, and then let the xbox make some scratching noise. I'd look it up first so you don't do something to your game/console, but this definitely worked for me, seeing as if I didn't do it, the game would give me an error while it was loading.

I'm sure this may have been discussed in a 32 page thread, but can anybody tell me why EA does not release a Wii version? 2k9 was terrible, and 2k10 is alright but I want NHL 10!

it would be cool if you could play Winter Classic mode at the previous years venue in an upcoming EA release

So on the penalty kill I was talking with my friend "Hey, I'm going to get a hat-trick on this penalty kill", we both laughed and then with 1 minute and 20 seconds left in our penalty (Be a Pro online) I got a natural hat-trick. First goal I banked it off the goalie, second goal I danced around their entire team and deked their goalie. The hatty goal was a knuckle puck from the blue line with 2 seconds left on the penalty kill. Me and my friend went crazy laughing. Best thing ever I've done on NHL 10.
