bump....
I borrowed a couple of discs of P90x from a friend. (I can't do the whole program, because I think the diet part wouldn't be good for breast feeding... I just wanted to try it out)
HOLY COW! I knew I was in so-so shape (not fat, just not fit) but after 3 days I'm hurtin'!
I managed to finish the cardio and the kenpo but only made it through half of the yoga workout. And the ab-ripper? I wasn't able to make it through the 16 minute workout! Way to motivate me! (Seriously, I vow I will be able to finish this!)
We'll see what happens...How many calories are burned in the cardio workouts, does anyone know?

I bought a Men's Health special edition on getting a flat stomach. It's full of different work-outs you can do at home, and nutritional advice.
After only a few weeks, I am seeing results.
You can do a lot of this at home with some dumb-bells, medicine ball, and pilates cord. I also should get a bench and the big ball thing.

After the ab workout last night, I woke up @ 4am (yay motherhood) and couldn't pull myself out of bed!
When does the pain go away? Or should I be feeling like this every day?

takes about a week into the workout for the pain to go away, or you learn to ignore it...which ever comes first.
great program. been on it, on and off, for almost two years. never followed the diet part...just the workouts.

Best way to get in shape? Boxing. Although since boxing is pretty intense, swimming is also great for working out, and it does not require much effort.

I can see that being true! The kenpo workout was the first one I did and I was sweating like crazy after 15 minutes!

Anyone ever tried this workout program? It's called INSANITY! It's a beachbody program as well. I like that it's using only your body as resistance weight, and it's always non stop cardio.

What were your results like Mayer?
I am going to be getting back into things and wouldn't mind a cardio workout along with my weight lifting. I have let myself go and just need something to get me going again so I can get it into full swing. Over the past few weeks I have been working on my diet so now it is working out time.

I actually haven't tried it yet. I'm doing P90X and have been doing it off and on for the past year and a half. I just came across this INSANITY thing and was really interested in the combination of cardio and resistance.
That said, P90X has worked well for me. I find my heart rate generally stays up because of the circuit like routine, but this new one looks like it gets taken to a new level.

If it's truly interval based then it would be an excellent routine. HIIT cardio is simply the best way to lose weight.

It looks like I should keep my phone and 9-1-1 close by.
What kind of results were you getting from P90X? I used it for a bit but didn't like a lot of the exercises and the use of weights, bands, etc. If I am going to lift weights I want to do it in my gym. I have a nice work out room in my place but just don't use it as much as I once did but some cardio program would be nice. I hate going for runs, walks are boring so my only cardio is golf (walking the course) but with winter it makes it a bit tough to get out there as much as I would like.
I need something to kick my a$$ into gear so by next summer I'm not a million pounds over weight.

I just eat moderate amounts of food and what I do eat is healthy. Run when I can. This Victoria weather is too damn cold for me to run in and exams are in full swing so my excuse is that I'm eating lots to hibernate for the winter.
My budget is about 30-40 bucks a week for food so I just buy veggies and roast them. Make my own marinara sauce when tomatoes go on sale..etc
You could swing by the Ian Stewart center, get a membership and get some good mentoring on fitness HOOT !

Thought you had to be a student to go to ISC? I went once with a buddy who went to UVIC and it was the best gym I have ever seen in Victoria. Funny thing it is your average gym in Calgary, but Victoria it is king!

I'm getting pretty good results from P90X. My main goal was shedding a little fat and really increasing my muscle mass. I could have been more disciplined with the program but overall it's been pretty good.
I actually prefer doing free weight exercises at home rather than going to the gym. Thats why this program works well for me. My biggest problem is cardio because like you, I hate running. When the weather is nice I bike to work but I don't have much interest in doing that during the Calgary winter. Thats why this INSANITY! program is appealing. It looks damn hard but I kind of like that.

Well maybe I will check it out then and just see what it is all about. We need to start a CP Health/Fitness Group that we can all share stories of success and even failure. My biggest problem is my munchies (no idea why I get them though ) and finding the right food to munch on.

I can officially say I have six pack abs from starving myself for almost 2 months. Not the healthiest way (obviously) but if you only have a food budget of $65/month, it's worth it. Now I feel like walking around with no shirt all the damn time... can't way till the summer, working out outside and showing off my sexiness.......................... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah.

So I am trying to gain some weight and drinking some weight gain shakes (have like 900+ calories each). For those who know, if I pre-made like 8 drinks (blend the powder + milk), then stuck them in the fridge right away, will they go bad? I find myself not taking them because I hate making them ALL the time, but if I can make a huge batch and then just whip them out and drink them whenever, I would actually drink them all the time. Anyway know?

Had an idea!
|
How fast do you drink them?
The powder might settle, but if the milk doesn't go sour it shouldn't be a problem.
So, I figured something out. If you play hockey or some other sport where you're playing for 2 hours and really sweating a lot, just make sure you're dehydrated properly, stay away from Gatorade if you can(drink it during the game not afterwards if you must)....and don't eat or drink anything afterwards for at least 4-5 hours. In fact, if you play in the evening, go to bed without drinking anything else but water.
Idea is to force your body to burn fat for energy because your glycogen stores are completely depleted.
And it works. I lost only 10-12# in the past 2 months on the weigh scale, but it actually looks like a lot more.
Only problem is that with time your muscles will have one hell of a time converting. It might catch up to you if you play 3-4x per week. But for those who just play once or twice a week, it should work really good.
If I played a lot of games during the week, I just some chocolate milk every 2nd game. Not a lot either, maybe 250-300mL. Seemed to help me recover better.

Glycogen stores are used primarily during physical activity, especially aerobic. Consuming a 3:1 carbs : protein ratio snack immediately after, followed by a meal ~2 hours post-workout is ideal for restoring glycogen stores, the fuel for exercise/physical activity. While avoiding this may not have noticable fatigue-like symptoms, it's not a good idea.
There's really no secrets when it comes to weight loss or maintenance. Caloric intake less or equal, respectively, to your caloric usage (metabolism + physical activity), is the only way it will happen.
Trying to "trick" your body into weight loss really isn't necessary, and is potentially harmful in certain situations. The cliche thrown around these days is "it's about your lifestyle"; and there's good reason for that saying.

I am on Day 3 of Insanity. I vow to complete it, but as of now, I feel like a child. I am a pretty fit 22 year old and I run and work out 3 to 4 times a week, but grad school is interfering with my gym time so I looked for something I could do at home.
Every single part of my body hurts. I am drenched in sweat like 20 minutes into each workout. Even the warm-up is painful (maybe this will wear off as I go on). But it's really well constructed and the exercises and in particular the stretches are awesome. I'll wait a week or so before I comment more, but it's a pretty sweet thing to do and requires minimal space, 45 minutes a day, and no equipment. Which is sweet, for a poor student.
But wow, I am in pain.
