There are a lot of holes in Parekh's game but putting up points is not one of them.
His offensive instincts and vision are fantastic and should easily evolve to the NHL hame. If he puts in the work on the defensive side there is no telling how far his game could go. Will come down to his intensity and dedication but he is looking like a beauty of a pick.

To be fair, at the time of Zayne’s injury Huska was starting to use him more in situations where Flames needed offence.
Didn’t he even say the concern wasn’t defence but rather thinking the game at NHL speed? For example, make your pass or take your shot faster become the moment passes.

I think Zayne is fully capable of that. But he was getting scratched before he even had the chance to show anything at all.
The leash was short from day one. And I hate that, because look at what he is evidently capable of bringing when given the leeway to spread his wings.
I think the confidence was choked out of him in october and he had to fight it until an untimely injury.
As long as Huska employs the same evaluation rubric with the stud as he does with the others, we're good. That remains to be seen.

Maybe I was watching something different, but with Parekh I did not see a player stifled and held back by the coaching staff. I saw a young player who was physically overwhelmed by the NHL, and a coaching staff trying to manage his matchups to protect him as much as possible. Trying to keep his body and confidence from getting clobbered while his body develops to an NHL level.

Could very well be. I didn't hear that about Parekh, but that's a better reason than just mistakes, which were an issue across the board at the time.
It was getting a little better just before the injury. But the frequency of him getting scratched was still concerning.

Well one ... he's younger.
And two ... he didn't play as well out of the gates.
But two rookie defenseman is all the proof I need that the coach is willing to give young players a chance.
Pachal has been scratched for what a month?

I've stopped worrying about how Huska eases players into the lineup. He's really good at it.
My guess is that Huska's deadline was something like, have Zayne ready by the time we ship Ras out of here.
Without the injury, I bet by now people would be clamouring for Zayne to be promoted from the 3rd pair. He learns fast. But he'll be paired with Bahl soon IMO and that should help quite a bit with the physical side of NHL play. In the off-season he does need to add mass for protection though.

I think it was about anticipation in general. In junior his ability makes up for seeing the plays ahead of time, both offensively and defensively. When he got caught in the NHL was usually when he was up on the play and didn't recognize the developing play going the other way. Hopefully that improves, and I think it will.
He does look casual at the junior level, because the game there is a great tempo for him. So in the NHL he will have to gear up, and eventually the game will seem slower for him and that's when he will really shine.

Only thing I'm worried about for Parekh is injuries and him taking big hits. The rest will work itself out in a few years.

Shortly before he was drafted, Parekh said that he didn't think being a minority resulted in any barriers for his path to the NHL.
""When I was a kid, I didn't really look at my (Indian) descent as a barrier... When you're in a locker room with a bunch of guys, you kind of think you're the same as them... and that's how it should be..."
Kind of an unusual response for that kind of question.
He did say that he wanted to be a role model for other minorities to grow the game, which is in line with the statements in recent interviews.

Seeing Parekh and McKenna 1 & 2 in WJ scoring elicits quite the "What if" scenario for the Flames.

I haven’t heard Pat’s comments, but anyone know if he said this?
Update: Yes Pat did say this:
“Here’s what I can tell you, Flames players are aware of it - and coaching staff, management, all aware of it. I think there’s a lot of understanding that there’s a 19 year old player who has done a lot of maturing…From what I understand, no his teammates weren’t thrilled, but I don’t think they’re offended, but I think they’ll say “hey this is why you don’t say this going forward”
Pat talks around “immature”, walks it back and says “inexperienced”.
Ya know what? I hate that “experienced” means be vanilla and don’t speak your mind. Flames should embrace their personalities and not make them be bland, lunchables. Let the kid be a dunkaroo.

I saw this movie already when Tkachuk was here, I hated it.
Zayne’s right. He has a brand and as long as he’s respectful of his team, he should be able to say what he wants.
Flames want everything to be boring grey concrete just like their ugly building?

People really need to stop over analyzing this kid and leave him be. Seems no matter what he does or says people (media, CP posters, teammates) will always have a complaint about him. Let Zayne be Zayne and appreciate him for what he is, a smart kid and great hockey player trying to find his way.

We may as well trade him for a boring centre if that’s what they want before they ruin him or drive him away. Fking dinosaurs

Let's chase him out of town like we did with Tkachuk. That was a smart move.
