I think if he is on LTIR he should not be allowed to practice with the team. You can't have it both ways.

Non-contact jerseys exist for a reason: so injured players can practise with the team. Nothing in the rules or the CBA forbids that.
The alternative is that every injured player would have to completely abstain from any kind of skills practice until medically cleared to play – at which point, if the injury was long enough to require LTIR, he'd be so far from game condition that he'd have to shut down for the rest of the season. These guys need to keep in training, and it can't all be done in the gym.

That's beside the point. If you make a rule forbidding injured players to attend practice, you make it much harder for guys with legitimate injuries to come back from them. Is that the price you want to pay just to keep a useless player off the Oilers' playoff roster?

Not arguing! Just noting that Kane forgot his no contact jersey on his first practice with the Oilers.
Sarcasm aside, that means that there are zero concerns about contact which does seem odd after multiple hip and knee surgeries.
