Yeah, that's a terrible take. There is a discussion about whether you should take TEs in the first round, but it's not like Mayer proved he was a perennial Pro Bowler in waiting.

It’s not a team need. Mayer showed flashes of potential but couldn’t stay healthy. I think they really thought they would get Penix at 13th and with Bowers slipping, they pivoted to BPA. I’m actually pretty happy they got a guy that looks like he’s going to be a player. The last time they picked a decent player in the first round it was Jacobs so I’m not going to get overly critical that it’s not addressing a team need.
