Ugh

Merryweather ended up being a massive disappointment, but I don't understand DFA'ing him when Trent Thornton still occupies a spot on the 40 man.

Yeah, as much as I don't trust Merryweather if I needed an open spot Thornton is the guy I would have cut.

I think Thornton still has an option for 2023 while Merryweather and White don't. White can be outrighted to the minors but would need to go through waivers.

Merryweathers issue was despite having elite fastball velocity he had flat/straight velocity so it was very hittable. If he could make that four seamer have some movement he’ll be really good somewhere (if he can stay healthy) but that flat fastball wasn’t working. Manoah is a good show of taking a couple miles off the heater to get the movement going. Now ofc if you can throw 100 with movement like deGrom or Verlander then that’s awesome but that’s why those guys are special.

I'm planning on going to a Jays game in April at Rogers Center. The last time I was there I sat in the 500 level. This time around I'm looking at the 100 or 200 level. Do you guys/gals have any advice on which sections are good in the 100's and 200's?

I’m from the GTA, been to dozens of games in my lifetime. I just say to look at the map and decide what price you’re willing to pay. It’s more or less a circle so the view is pretty straightforward, just depends on what you’re willing to pay to be closer to the action (1st and 3rd baselines). Just a random example but I went to Pittsburgh to watch two games Cincinnati vs pirates and Red Sox vs pirates and I paid about $35 CDN for 9th row up just on the first and third bases. Same price here was something like $225 each. While it was a great experience in Pittsburgh I’d much much much rather save my money and pay $50 to sit in the 100-level outfield. There wasn’t that incremental benefit at the Rogers centre for spending that cash.

Thanks! What's your take on the washrooms and concessions when it comes to the 100 vs 200 level?

If you want shorter lines for both, definitely 200 level. 200 level also means you can walk to the standing room section in centre field without changing levels. Always fun to grab a drink and stand out there for a few innings.

Default 2022 Toronto Blue Jays Off-season Thread

The Skydome / Rogers Center is currently going through construction, so what was last year and what will be next season will be different in some aspects.

This was just posted yesterday - who knows what the final product will look like

Wonder what the wall dimensions will be? it's symmetrical right now but from that video it looks like a lot of variation.

They didn't say when they announced the renos

The renovations will also likely impact Rogers Centre as an offensive environment. The Blue Jays aren’t yet revealing the specifics of the stadium’s new outfield dimensions, but we do know it will be an asymmetrical boundary and that the fences will jut in slightly to accommodate the elevated bullpens.

Guerrero Jr and Jays avoid arbitration and signs a 1 year 14.5 million dollar deal.

Not too familiar with how contracts work in MLB, but what does this mean for the future?

I believe Vlad is arb eligible again for 2 more seasons after this one, and then can be a free agent in 2026. I think the Jays would like to lock him and Bo up to mega deals sooner than later to avoid getting close to that deadline.

Besides asymmetric, hoping for an incline and a flag pole in the field of play.

They agreed to deals with everyone but Bo. Not surprised to see the difficulty here after failing to extend him last offseason.
