One of the fastest players in the draft, 6'2", already plays a solid defensive game. Would have put up better numbers, but didn't play a lot on the top pairing with Daemon Hunt. 10pts in 23 games, but his numbers might explode next year.

The part that intrigues me is he is probably going to play an absolute ton next year. So will probably get a better sense of where he is at. Really excited with this pick.

One thing I can't quite get my head around is how I always seem to see "great pick" or "great value" or even a couple times over the last few years, I've seen media say that they really loved our picks, etc...
Yet we're consistently ranked low in our prospect depth.
Is everyone just always wrong? Are they trying not to be too honest because they're talking about kids? Are we bad at developing prospects?

I think the Flames are ranked low because they traded 2 first rounders in recent memory, plus they have also graduated a number of players.
They would be ranked lower if they didn't do a good job of drafting as of late. All good when you consider the underlying reasons why this team is not highly regarded for its' prospect pool - lots of graduates, don't pick at the top of the draft, and 2 recent 1st round picks were traded.

The Flames have done very well in terms of drafting for the last number of years. Many draft models have the Flames near the top of the NHL in terms of the value they've been able to extract from their picks (based on their draft slots). Especially since Treliving took over (ignoring his first draft (2014) since that was led moreso by Burke).
The reason that the prospect depth is usually talked about a lot is because the Flames, while being able to extract very good value based on their draft slots, haven't had many picks or high picks in the last while.
