Compared to the old hand-built days, Ferrari and Lambo have definitely improved in terms of quality. While they too have transitioned away from being hand-built, personally I think Porsche quality has gone down in comparison. The cars from the 80's truly feel like cars that were built to last forever...I don't get quite the same feeling now.
They've collectively all also lost a bit of their soul in the transition. The trade-off may be worth it to their owners though.
That used to be more true, but long gone are the days of Luigi hand pounding fenders for the Italians. Production techniques are pretty standard and modern across the board and I wouldn't call a current production Lambo or Ferrari any more "delicate" than a contemporary Porsche.
Especially Lambo, Ze Germans have been in charge for a while now
Test drove a 2018 Golf R with the DSG on the weekend. First of all, holy crap, what a car. The handling is out-freaking standing. I couldn't believe how hard you could push it. I knew they were good, but it's just so much better than you can imagine. Also, it is really fast. My current car is faster in a straight line by about a second, but this would out handle me all day long and that's awesome.
And yeah, the DSG is as good as they say. Just a great car.

I have had this exact car in a manual for the last 2 years and I love it. I'd assume the DSG is also great if you don't feel like rowing your own gears

Some guy on Kijiji is selling winter tires and rims for his 996 turbo, and I am looking for winter tires and rims (and also a roof transport system) for my 996 Carrera 2.
He says he went one size down and his section/profile/diameter measurements match mine. But if the tires are on turbo rims it would make them a 8J 18 ET40/11J 18 ET63, where the OEM size for my wheels are 7.5J 18 ET50/10J 18 ET65.
Based on what I’ve read, that would mean the rims themselves would be 1/2” and 1” wider front and back, with slightly different offsets. How can I be sure that it would or wouldn’t fit, short of driving the 10 hours to this guy and installing them?

https://www.willtheyfit.com/ works pretty good to give you an idea, then you can measure on the car with what it spits out to be sure compared to existing.

Oh that’s pretty much perfect! Thanks for the link

550 with a tune. Stock 0-60 is 4.4 versus stock R's 4.9. With the tune I'm probably high 3s.
The R felt faster, though. Probably because it is a little more raw feeling versus the MB cocoon-y feel and the R destroyed my car in the corners. My car is really not fun when it comes to handling. Just too big and heavy, plus I don't love air suspension.

The gf, was looking at a bunch of cars. Knowing her, I recommended the GLA45, as she likes my car (manual '19 R). She loves the look of the CLS & A7, so I suggested we check them out. Suppose it only makes sense, they aren't as tossable. But man, those lines, and big displacement Germans, sound so great.
I had the opposite experience of Sliver today and drove the most unremarkable car on the market, a Mitsubishi Mirage. I haven't driven such a horrible vehicle since our old mid 90s Nissan Sentra and that Nissan was actually a lot more fun than the Mirage.
I went to pick up my rental vehicle today and they didn't have my car. I reserved a full size and I should get a guaranteed upgrade to a premium car with my status. They could only offer me a Kia Soul which is far from full size or premium. I was heading up near the airport so I asked if I could just stop there and swap out to a decent vehicle and they agreed saying that they had a Mirage which needed to go back to the airport. That Mirage was a little scary going down Deerfoot and it was just an awful driving experience. 3500 rpms going down Deerfoot at 120.
