Came in here to read some thoughts and am shocked people are actually putting stock in these losses. It is pre-season, lots of experiments and try outs. It means absolutely nothing except to get a look at some guys trying to make a push for the big club, that is it.

Mine was Brock Boeser is legit. Reminds me of Bobby Ryan.... great shot/hands, maybe could use a little more speed?

Really doubt they do that with Valimaki this year (they will next year) but I would give Andersson the chance to learn in the show personally.
Based on Bartkowski and Kulak getting worked by an AHL team, you have to think Andersson has the inside track on the #6 job.

Agreed. Dube only surprise standout. He will be cut very late and go back to junior. He is ready for AHL though.

Kylington still makes too many mistakes and caught up ice too much. Andersson needs more seasoning. Valimaki needs another year for sure. Kulak is the best option amongst no ideal options.

Janko will make the team. He is ready for 4th line center duty.

The way Lazar is playing he will see lots of press box as 13 or 14th forward. I see nothing special at all so far. Quite disappointing really. BT will not risk waivers for him given the 2nd round pick we gave up.

I was not so sold on bringing Jagr but after lacklustre play from several prospects I am fully onboard with the move. Not enough finish from any of them so far.

Despite the juicy rebound and the short side goal, lots to like from Gillies. He was really abandoned in the 2nd period. Had he got pulled at the half way mark of the 2nd we would have been quite happy with his performance.

Still hoping Rittich shows why Lack is not needed.

I don't remember Langkow being the speedster that Dube is. I feel like Cogliano is more apt.

In regards to the does pre-season success equal regular season success debate, I found two articles that make the arguement that there is no evidence of correlation between winning in exhibition and winning when it counts.

If I'm coaching the Flames, I try Andersson-Stone as a pairing next game, to see if they click well enough to overcome any disadvantage of having two right-handers on the blue line. It seems like Andersson is the most NHL-ready of the young bucks, and if lefty-righty isn't a decisive factor, I can easily see him beating Kulak for the #6 spot.

I had a terrific seat. Impressions overall: Jankowski was just fine. Dube was terrific - I know he's going to junior but he'd make a decent fourth liner right now. His linemates were good.

I thought the three defensive rookies were all good. Rasmus was solid, Kylington showed his wheels well and wasn't overdoing it and Vakimaki looked pretty comfortable.

I was disappointed in Foo. I was hoping Mangiapane would show more but he couldn't deal with the stifling game.

Gillies was a little off and on. The second goal was a bad one. And the goal that didn't count ecause of the penalty was a long range shot too. What a behind the back stop though.

To some extent the easy first period got them into a bad mind set, IMO. They were up 3-1 and the Canuck goal was a real fluke. And they could easily have had more. Then the vets started coasting. Backlund and Frolik should have eaten the Canucks for dinner, but they were on the perimeter trying to make cross ice passes all night.

Kylington seems like a project that they want to over ripen in the AHL, regardless of how good he looks.

Andersson has been good, but not amazing by any means. Kulak was good in Edmonton, and not great tonight. Wotherspoon by most accounts was meh. Bartkowski has lost dibs on a spot to this point.

Hard to say for sure but if I were forced to guess right now it's likely Kulak and Andersson for the 6/7. Valimaki could very well stay as an 8th d-man for up to 9 games as well.

Yes, he's not a real vocal coach. I don't think he's capable of motivating through words or emotions.

I wonder what the mood would be like around here after a pre-season win.

I hope the criticism of GG being too poor of a motivator isn't something that comes up again early on (despite having a pretty solid system that this team can play well within). But more specifically I guess I'm saying I really hope these players don't need an ass kicking every off day to get up for the real games.

Many of the key vets claimed they were chomping at the bit to get going and see potential in this team. Let's see the actions back up the talk.

I may just puke if they come out against Edmonton and mail it in after a bad goal or call like last season. They'd better want to stick it to that team on day one as badly as the fans do, or I'm not sure I want them on our team.
