I've been off the grid for a while and can't believe I am seeing Bennett with 0 points in 15 games.
Zac Rinaldo plays for the worst team by far in the NHL this year and has a goal in 12.
I'm wondering if Bennett hasn't gotten laid in a while. Anyone know a girl that would take one for the team?

Yeah. I've heard most professional hockey players have trouble meeting women.
We should start a foundation to help the poor guys out.

Pretty pathetic when an Oiler fan can come in and make you look stupid. Some of you need to start putting more effort into your posts, or just not post at all.

They get a lot of rope because they have huge talent and there is so much upside in giving them rope.
IMO, that is not inconsistent with meritocracies.

Don't worry about Bennett.
Split98 told us we should be excited about him because he had "flashes of brilliance" during the preseason. Regular season be damned.
On a more serious note, I wonder what our options are for Bennett. Is he AHL eligble (without waivers)?
Demoting him to the 4th line seems a bit counter productive.
I'd put him back with Backlund, at least for a little while to try and rebuild his confidence.
Perhaps:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Jagr
If he gets going, you could put him back with Jankowski and Jagr. Just a thought.

He can't be sent down without going on waivers. I think if the Flames lose tonight you move him on the Backlund line.

Too bad. AHL might have been good for him. Win or lose, I'd move him to the Backlund line.
Try to "jump start" him if you will, like a car. Perhaps a poor comparison, but you get the point.

I am on board with swapping Bennett and Tkachuk. Atleast for a game or two. I believe not only will Backs and Frolik help Sam, but Tkachuk could also spark Jankowski and Jagr

Back when he was eligible, a lot of posters would have been apoplectic if he was sent to the AHL. "Best player in camp" and all that.

Silly to be cheeky on that ...
Many of the media have said similar (including Loubardias), Gultuzan picked him out twice in the off season as a guy they expect to have a big jump this year. Treliving as well.
This isn't a fanboy thing.
This is a player that seems to have things aligned often in the past two years that finds a way to get in his own way.

I always take those kinds of comments as generic tire-pumping by supportive bosses. "He's training real hard." Well yeah, almost all NHL pros do train real hard in the off-season. Have you ever heard a coach or GM say they expected a guy to falter in the upcoming season?
I've never seen any kind of correlation between those comments and a player's actual play once the season got underway.

I think a lot of that came down to he is on a "show me" contract after not living up to expectations in his rookie contract. He has a lot to prove and right on the media to think that due to that contract and bad play he'd bounce back.
I was the same and took him in my hockey draft for the same reasons. I'd be near the top instead of middle of pack if he had any life to him offensively. Damn you Bennett!!

I’m sure they are as disappointed as the fans are in his season thus far. Highest draft pick the organization has ever had.
He is not someone in danger of being cut but I’d be disappointed if Treliving wasn’t examining every avenue possible to make the team better.

I wasn't trying to be cheeky. I'm just saying that there were a lot of people who criticized the team for not playing him enough, slammed posters for even suggesting he might stand some AHL time, etc. I daresay it was the majority view he should stay up. So it's not surprising he got no AHL time.

Bennett needs to go out and drop the mitts with someone. Focus on the basics, and that's about as basic and mindless as you can get.

Take his 8-10 minutes of ice time and shave 5 off of that. Sure, good plan.

Realistically only a minute - if that - of actual playing time. I think he should do it, could spark something.

It is hard to figure out how to get Bennett going without being in the locker room. However it seems that those on the locker room can't figure it out either. We may be getting to the point where we should treat Bennett like any other player on the team. He has beem the least productive forward in the NHL, so off to the press box he goes. If it is not the best for his development, screw his development. Instilling meritocracy and team-first mentality is more important. Then let him claw his way back into the line-up by outplaying fourthliners in the practices. If anything, showing him that he is no longer "our future franchise center" may actually get a monkey off his back.
