While I agree with you, I feel a more accurate comparison would be that it's rained for 2 days in Arizona during the 4 day vacation you've planned for a year. It's a very rare occurrence – and that's awesome – but that doesn't mean it isn't frustrating.

I totally disagree. Hamilton is still one of the best defensemen for the Flames and much better than the other D in the NHL. All those mistakes that he made in the last two games was unfortunate and I wouldn't trade him for anyone. I definitely think he will learn from those mistakes.

Except he wasn't.
He had a bad game in Game 1, no question about it. One of his worst in quite a while.
But he bounced back and had a great game last night. The criticism here is ridiculous. Of course he gets beat defensively sometimes - every defenseman does. 23 year old defensemen get beat a lot (way more than him).
That call was boarderline at best, and should have been both of them. Suggesting Hamilton was underwhelming because of it, or tearing his whole game apart, as some are doing, is ridiculous.

Oh man, you guys are not going to like what your going to hear here about Dougie Hamilton.
Quote:
“Brodie’s is … that’s just a complete lack of … you got no composure when you’re doing that. He’s down already.”
“If you don’t rip Dougie Hamilton, I will. Stupidest [expletive] penalty you can take.”
“How about the T.J. Brodie one, too? But you’re right, that Dougie Hamilton one.”
“Does he had a [expletive] brain?”
“He doesn’t. He’s stupid as [expletive].”
“I don’t know him that well.”
“He’s not an intelligent guy.”
“You’re Mr. Flames, so you probably know him better than I do.”

I heard from some guy in the pressbox after the game that Dougie Hamilton has no brain. Just sayin'.

Why do people have to keep coddling Hamilton? I get that mistakes happen and bad luck bounces will occur, no one is perfect or flawless, but come on. Hamilton's lack of IQ is going to cost us this series. When the same mistakes keep happening at the most critical of times, his upside becomes worthless. The goal is to win a cup. I don't care what he does during a long, generally meaningless 82 games, I need to see what he does when everything is on the line. At this point he folds like a cheap tent.

Fans need to get off Hamilton's back. It is obvious he hates the Ducks as much as all of us. Dude is playing all out against a bunch of d-bags like Perry, Getzlaf, and Kesler. I can only imagine how hard it is to play penalty free against these knobs.
I would want to stab them with a skate lol re: slapshot.
Bottom line i don't want to see fans run out of town a very talented young D man just because of some penalties he has taken in this series.

He is a really hot and cold type of player. Reminds me of Phaneuf back in the day. Looked amazing at times, but dumb as hell at others.
He is still pretty young though and I expect he will improve. The growing pains hurt a little right now though.

Except most of the penalties he's taking aren't the kind you're talking about. They're undisciplined stickwork penalties that happen in during game play. All these trips or holds and etc are penalties he's taken all season long. It's the same kind of minors Sam Bennett took all year and he was taking a beating over these by fans and pundits. To me, they're inexcusable and have hurt the team.
I'd like to see Dougie work heavily on his acceleration this summer because it's clear to me over the past 2 seasons that this is his major weakness. He has very high top speed when he gets going, but lacks a dynamic first step and it hurts him because he ends up taking a lot of trips, holds, slashes and etc to compensate. If he can improve that aspect of his game, I could see the minor penalties going down and his offensive game flourish even more.

Really in game one is was Bouma's penalty that led to the winning goal not Hamilton's before that. I don't feel he's on his own cost the team anything as there's plenty of blame around and Gaudreau has had his share of opportunities that he hasn't buried and you cant win in the playoffs without production from your best forwards. Also some blame in game to has to go to Elliott for handing the Ducks a two goal lead. There's simply no room for error in the playoffs and you have to start games ready to play. He didn't so regardless of the Hamilton penalty you can argue the Flames should have been up 2-0 at that stage of the game anyway.

The offensive side of his game is obviously there. But he needs a lot of work on play without the puck - not to mention discipline - to become the complete defenceman that a lot of fans here claim he is.

Maybe it relates to being overpaid far too soon in his career. I often think we should have taken our draft pick instead of acquiring him and giving him the big pay day.

I'm pretty sure he meant that his penalties are costing the team goals and that in fact is true. He's taken 4 bad penalties in this series and the Ducks have scored 2 of their 6 goals from those penalties. There's no question he needs to clean this part of his game up, it was an issue all regular season long and it's happening again in the most important games of the year.
You have to hold players accountable. Sam Bennett was scratched for a game for taking similarly dumb penalties. This something that Dougie has to ween out of his game because it is hurting the team right now.

This thread is mind blowing. 23 year old dman has 2 straight career years. Is part of the most sound pairing in the league while putting up points. Has one bad game and follows it up with business as usual. Some drunk calls him an idiot and now a bunch of so called fans are right back to riding one of the most important players on a good team getting better. Your opinions suck and you will all eat it (again) as Dougie continues to prove he's one of the best in the league.

Please tell me you meant to type that in past tense? You don't actually still sometimes think we'd be better off with the pick when we got a young, franchise D-man who's currently part of one of the best pairings in the league, do you?
