Overall though it seems like the majority of people were well behaved.

So is this an official statement allowing fans to set off fireworks if it's away from gas stations?

Nice.

Agreed, I changed it to be more generic.

CALGARY – A Calgary Flames fan says she was groped Saturday night following the first-round series win as thousands of people filled the Red Mile. Minutes later, she was attacked again, and her boyfriend was threatened when he tried to protect her.

ummm.... this should go over well but it sounds like she got full on molested and her boyfriend was threatened by an obviously deranged person yet both of them felt they shouldn't interrupt officers who were dealing with broken bottles?

@ Weitz

That is a full on molestation and threat. Simply despicable.

I hope the BF and GF told the cops that were there. And I sincerely hope that it's not a made up story either, which is definitely possible in today's narcissistic world.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think this girl going to the media is making this whole situation worse. This is a police issue not a media issue, all she is doing by telling her story is casting an even worse light on the mile and the real fans celebrating there.

I feel as if now we all have to pay for the consequences of this one idiot because she brought it to light. I was ashamed when I saw this on the news last night. She just wanted her 30 seconds of fame. And for the record, I am not trying to victim shame her whatsoever, I just completely disagree with how she handled this.

Yeah, I find it weird she told the media but not the cops. I think she's telling the truth, but it does make you question her motives.

I agree that that sucks and that something should be done about it, but at the end of the day you cant have that many people in one place and expect that every one of them is going to behave themselves.

I tend to believe it. When we were out there after the game on Saturday my GF had obnoxious and lewd comments directed at her. We decided to pack it in early as she didn't want to be out there. Could got more out of hand as the night went on.

But then again we had friends who stayed and no issues. So who knows.

Seems strange the boyfriend is a big guy yet just says 'don't touch her' after being jumped on from behind and groped.

And why would you not report it to the police? That's a full on assault.

No kidding, WTF. Most guys would go bananas if that happened to their GF/wife, I know I would. Especially the second time, "excuse me sir, please don't sexually assault my girlfriend again".....something really doesn't add up here.

I was there with my wife & two younger sisters (all of us in our 20's) after game 6. We experienced nothing but good fun, and we spent the majority of the night on the corner of National (I believe that's 10th?). Admittedly, there was a heavy cop presence at that spot though so I believe people were well behaved accordingly.

There were many an obnoxious fan around us, but nothing lewd. I'm certain lewd things are being said and done, but that's what happens when you win an elimination game, have alcohol/drugs, scantily clad women & hormones all mixed together unfortunately. You'll never get rid of those types of things which is unfortunate. The key is minimizing it by getting the message out and remind your less than sober neighbor to be a good reveler, not a doosh.

Like the ol' saying goes, be a Fan not a Fanattic.

For the most part though, I think the Red Mile is as safe as any other street in downtown on any given night. I am very proud of the enthusiasm at the Red Mile & the generally well behaved large crowds.

PS: I parked way over by Stephen Ave and walked down to 17th. I don't care if this part sounds condescending or offensive to the overly sensitive PC crowd, but along the walk I saw a bunch of vehicles along McLeod of visible minority families with Papa driving and Mama waving a car flag and a van full of kids all reveling. I found it extremely endearing that these new Canadians were embracing the Flames and the culture of Calgary. You could tell they were having a blast the same as everyone else

Exactly. This doesn't add up at all.
