Right; Brandon Saad too, but in the first rounders. 11-30 are really just starting to make their way into the league full time.
EDIT: Wait, Kucherov has 100 NHL GP? I don't believe it.

If they knew he was flat out not resigning, then add him to a package for an asset. Just getting a later 2nd for him is a poor return.

Maybe....but I'd feel a lot better about the rebuild if the Flames took the projected defenseman at 22 who is already an NHL regular and played in the Olympics. Jankowski didn't even come close to making a world jr team.

I'd say it's more likely right now that he doesn't turn into an impact player than he does but that's just my take. I would much rather a Hertl, Girgenson, Maata, Ceci, Wilson, or even Teravainen.

We also got Sieloff out of the equation. We got two players in key positions we were extremely weak. It was a good hockey deal for a team entering a rebuild. Still is.

no, that has to do with age when you sign your contract and NHL games under your belt. Here's the table:
Sven signed when he was 19, so his 4 years of being waiver exempt are up.

What point does bitching about the Jankowski pick make now? I know...lets hire Feaster and Weisbrod back so we can fire them again. Will that make everyone happy?

Yeah but that chart basically says that every year that goes past they lose a year of waiver ineligibility? 18+5=23, 19+4=23, 20+3=23, no?

In any event, he will be waiver eligible next fall, and likely will be in the AHL until then barring some major rash of injuries to VAN.

The Jankowski pick made sense at the time considering our center prospects consisted of........
Who would've figured that Monahan and Bennett, potentially the two best centers in the subsequent drafts, would fall into our lap.
The worst case scenario with Jankowski is that we'll get a 2nd round pick if we decide not to sign him, just like what we got for Baertschi.

If Sven hits his ceiling, a 2nd is a loss. If Sven stays on his recent trajectory, a 2nd is a win. On a risked basis, a 2nd is probably about right.
It just sucks to realize that someone we once had such high hopes isn't a sure thing. But with the organizational depth at LW and our prospect base in general, we don't need him to pan out anymore.
I'm happy with Treliving de-risking the asset and cashing in his chips to spend that equity elsewhere.

There have always been a small but vocal group of Sven, ummm.... 'dislikers', who need another prospect to prove to the world, through the use of specifically selected statistics, that said prospect is a horrible blight on the organization.
Jankowski will now reap the whirlwind of 'Sventisitics' until such time as he is traded, and another finds himself unworthy.

What the hell did I miss? What the hell is RGI, what does it stand for and why do we care?

Maata or Girgensons would look pretty good in our rebuild right now as well. Sieloff and Jankowski are sure making an impact.

I believe RGI is a fancy-stat that Ricardo invented, that only he ever refers to.

Sven also racked up some injuries in the last few years which I'm sure didn't help. He made his own bed on this one though

At least the team acted and managed to squeeze something out of this. This has a Marc Savard quality to it, where the Flames have a smaller talented forward who butts heads with coaches and management. At least this time management made a decision and moved on rather than think they could fix the mess and make it worse. I take a 2nd round pick and getting on with life over a year of making a mess and Ruslan Zainilun any day.
