Honestly, was quite the surprise waking up to see that we're in 8th and 3rd in the pacific. We should be able to keep it up, knowing that LA is weaker on the road and we have a bunch of games remaining against non-playoff teams

I think you're like a 15 year-old losing his virginity - premature.
2 points out is still pretty darn close, even if both Calgary and LA have two games in hand. That can change in a week...

If they lose tonight they're 2 points back, but with two more games played that the two teams they'd have to lap for one spot

I know. That's exactly what I said. And I don't think that's anywhere near time to count them out.

Someone on TSN just said it best.
They're not eliminated, but it will take another team collapsing for them to get in.

That's a better way to put it, but still too strong, in my opinion. I'm certainly not saying they're going to make it, and frankly I doubt they do, but 2 points, even with two less games, is still doable in a week.

LA has been just as inconsistent as SJ this year, and before losing 2 winnable games in a row they had won 7 or 8 straight
I dont think SJ is done at all
especially when you look at their april
vs Colorady
vs Arizona
vs Arizona
vs Dallas
@ Edmonton
@ LA
those first 5 games have 3 against teams outright tanking, and then Dallas and Colorado who are essentially out of it now
they could easily go 4-2, 5-1, 6-0 in April
as long as they can keep within the distance they are now they have a shot

More than anyone else in this race, the Sharks have shown it is possible to frequently lose to very bad teams. Their April may be easy, but they still risk being buried in March.

Ok, but their March has:
@ Van + vs Van
@ Pit + vs Pit
@ Mtl + vs Mtl
Vs Chi
Vs Nas
@ Wpg
@ Det
That's 10 very loseable games. Calgary and LA still have winnable games too

oh definitely, thats why I said as long as they can keep the same distance they have now
which for them based on recent play will be tough

If anybody wants to host an excel file, I have compiled a scenario spreadsheet for
Flames/Kings/Sharks/Wild
It has linked games, and automatic adding.
It currently has Wins/losses filled in by having the teams beating anybody lower than them in the standings, and losing to any teams above them in the standings. And randomly picking for teams that are tied.

Kings win was going to happen in Edmonton.
Sharks beating the Canucks in regulation is what we wanted IMO.
I think we have a better chance getting the 3 spot in the Pacific then competing for the wildcard.
As it stands all we need to do is match records with LA and SJ (yes easier said then done but that is why the Van loss was good).
Having a couple games in hand on SJ also helps.

Absolutely. Maybe a little daunting to say that we can trade point for point with LA until the end, but if we were going to compete for the wildcard spot, we would also be competing for the #2 Pacific spot.
