It's tough with Genie. At the end of the day, she's 21 and she rose very, very quickly. It's easy to point fingers and say it's this or it's that. I think back to 21 and I was still a very naive kid. You trust everyone around you and that they are going to do what's best for you.

Hopefully, she can surround herself with those who truly have her best interests at heart, rather than use who can piggy back off of her for 15 seconds of notoriety.

Vasek on the comeback trail after dropping the first two sets. Won the third and up a break in the 4th.

Vasek also has doubles to play later today. Gotta wonder if he considers pulling out now. Likely to play on Centre Wednesday against Murray.

Although it was a five set match, it wasn't a grueling match and the temperature wasn't too bad (in the low 20s Celsius). That said, he just completed his 3rd 5 set match of the tourney.

I'm so disappointed I could not watch this. Back to the grind unfortunately. I'm going to watch Wimbledon prime time for sure.

Vasek will now re-enter the top 30 of the rankings by making the QFs.

Also nothing new but even for Maria she totally embarrassed herself by hitting some of the highest pitches she ever has screaming at the end of her match.

Ivo had his look up a mini break but Andy pulls it out in the tiebreak. Andy is Andy so even though he's a much more difficult matchup for Vasek, he's also significantly more likely to totally meltdown.

Andy might have killed himself if he lost that tiebreak

As much as ESPN wanted to hype Venus-Serena as the big womens match, Vika-Serena figures to be a much better and more interesting match. Also of note, not a single women will return the the quarters from last year after Safarova goes out. Pretty much sums up women's tennis to have 100% turnover in just one year.

The reason Vasek can beat Andy on display again as Andy pretty much just gives away the third set. He will always give away a set if you keep some pressure on him.

I do appreciate the part though where he mentions that her ambitions and outlook have gradually been draining down the toilet over the past year. not too long ago it was all about winning slams and being #1...now it's more like, eh tennis is hard, just glad to have a job right now.
Not sure he is completely off here, don't think it is "off-court" in the sense of her being too much of a party animal but more in the sense that she is busier with photo shoots, endorsement deals, and different events.

When your only focus is on Tennis and preparing your game you are probably a little sharper then when you are trying to balance practice between repping some new Nike product, going to a modelling photo shoot for a magazine, and heading to an event for your Coke sponsorship.

The success and fame might have been a little too fast for her and now she is having a harder time balancing all of these aspects.
