after losing to the Stars Abbotsford had their 5 game winning streak come to an end, and I believe Baerschi was on a 5 game point streak. As far as I know he didnt have a point in the lose

edit: Checked, his point streak ended. He scored the shootout winner a couple games ago as well

PMM, Drury18 and a few others have lots of updates in the Heat subforum

Noticeably. He's bringing a much more physical game that seems to be translating into him getting points. He's also becoming more of the "playmaker" role then pure shooting role, that's also getting him ahead.

The last few games, he's fighting for his chances. Pushing his way into the crease, pushing guys out of his way, he's switched off his "get the puck to me" mode and gone full into "I'm taking the puck now thanks" mode. I think part of that was getting him off the top line and putting him with more of the workhorse types in Josh Jooris and Corey Locke.

Aside from the loss on Sunday (which was just a disaster is so many ways) he's been contributing on the score sheet consistently. He had a 5 game point streak that was 1g, 4a and doesn't include the beauty of a shootout winner for Saturday's game. His goal on Wednesday was the first in 12 games so long overdue. His assists have come on Josh Jooris goals and you can see the chemistry between them. I think given time, Sven will probably get a few more goals with Jooris. Right now (or the past few games) Jooris had the hot hand so Sven just kept setting him up.

There's a few videos in the Heat forum in the game day threads with highlights from the games and that show how much Sven's game as evolved in the last couple games.

Just noticed this, Sven Baertschi and Sean Monahan have now both played 51 games in the NHL and each have 24pts. 16G and 8A for Monahan and 8G and 16A for Baertschi.

I heard Sven's been eating bags of skittles on the farm.......previously he was on a steady diet of cream eggs. I expect to see a performance increase from #47.

Maybe it was just voice in the interview a week or 2 back but he came across as moping a bit.
Sven should play with a chip on his shoulder that he wants to prove Hartley and Burke wrong and force his way back to the NHL.
Even if he doesn't get a call up anytime soon. Sven needs to earn his way to be a call up.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but Baertschi has done that over parts of three seasons, never really being able to get his game together when expected. Monahan is doing that in his rookie season and is exceeding expectations all over the ice. Another reason why looking at only goals, assists and total points is one of the worst ways to judge players and their development.

Three seasons or not, the statistics prove that Sven can still put up points in the NHL. He is in the AHL to work on improving his skills to come back in the NHL.

Monahan is playing heavily sheltered minutes, which you seem to be ignoring completely.

Not that I'm down on Monahan, I'm quite excited for both Sven and Sean. This anti-Sven and Sean Vs. Sven mentality is stupid.

^ Ya I'm sick of all the clowns and their trade Sven scenarios...

We drafted him and he is a highly skilled prospect why wouldnt we try to develop him properly instead of moving him?

The idea of having Monahan, Sven, Gaudreau, Brodie, Backlund, Bouma, and this years top-5 pick to build around makes me excited for the future. Then there are players like Gillies, Ortio, Granlund, Knight, Arnold, Poirier, Sieloff, Wotherspoon and Klimchuk that makes it that much sweeter...

Just because Sven has stumbled doesnt mean we should give up on him. Most Euros take a bit longer to adjust anyway...

I can see why THN had trouble picking our top-10 prospects. We have a solid 11-12 that are all worthy.

I think Sven will be fine. I think he might be on the farm for awhile longer but he is a very talented guy and known as a hard worker. He'll be back. It is nice to hear that he is finding his game again.

I wonder is Sven will feel more at home when new, younger talent is surrounding him more frequently? An infusion of guys like Gaudreau, Arnold, Kulak, Agostino and others may help him feel more at home. Not sure the average age of guys on the team, but I would wager to say he's one of the youngest on Abbotsford.

Sven has placed heavily sheltered minutes too, what's your point?

As an 18 year old Monahan has done as much offensively as a 20 year old Sven. That says a lot.

Monahan is a much more complete player at a younger age.

But I agree in the sense that I don't understand why they are being compared, they play different positions, have different skill sets and have much different physical attributes.

There is a bunch of guys that are 22 and under. Wotherspoon and Granlund are the same age. Sieloff is younger, Max I think is a year older.

Edit: Now that I had some time.

# of players on current roster: 28
# of players age 20 or under: 4
# of players age 22 or under: 11
# of players age 24 or under: 16
# of players age 26 and under: 21
# of players age 30 and older: 5

With close to 60% of the team being age 24 or under I really think him not being comfortable being one of the youngest is reaching for an excuse. He might be one of the youngest, but he is also one of the more experienced and more successful.

What's not to understand? One guy was our top prospect up until this past draft. Sven was a highly touted forward who was being looked at as a potential torch bearer of the next generation. After the Flames drafted Monahan he became the anointed one.

Sure one is a skilled winger and the other is a 2way center so I can respect why you question the comparison but I think it is pretty clear why the 2 would be compared.
