I for one wouldn't at all. In fact, I would buy this tshirt if I ever saw it in a store and would wear it in public frequently.
Even if it said "Whities" or "Crackers" it wouldn't change a thing for me.

I think it needs to say "racists", and then have a picture of a white dude. That's usually the only thing white people respond negatively to... largely because its historically accurate. This thread is actually a good reflection of that.

Good, glad we put any notion of that illogical argument to bed before it had a chance to flower.

Any argument talking about reverse-racism or reverse-sexism is just ridiculous. White males aren't an oppressed group of people. - white male

Yeah, you can be racist against white people ... it just doesn't matter. In North America at least. It's probably different in South Africa.

I think his point was that this thread hasn't been racist, and that anybody offended by posts in this thread is being over sensitive. Pretty much every post in this thread agrees that certain logos and practices need to change, and that they eventually will

Well white people don't care when their called Crackers or Whities because there's no negative, oppressive connotation associated with those words.
But call a white guy a racist and watch how jumpy he gets. I bet he's 1/32th native all of a sudden and has lots of native friends. Like all good slurs, it's only negative if there's a history to it. White males have a history of being racists.
Now it's only a matter of having signs in stores that say "no racists allowed" and basically no white people are welcome. Only then could a white person truly understand what minorities have experienced under white oppression.

Yes, but how is this thread a "good reflection" of this? Where are people denying that certain logos are racist and saying that change isn't needed?

Well, Erik Estrada has argued that enough people aren't offended by it (meaning either racism isn't offensive to most which would be ridiculous, or it isn't racism) and that it won't ever change. That's in the last two pages, I can only assume he wasn't the first.

Speaking of oppression, did anyone see the salary a Chief in BC recieved last year for managing a reserve with 81 members (35 actually living on the reserve)? I guess this is a debate for another thread. However, when we speak of racism and oppression. How will things ever change with the current system in place?

Welll he is wrong in the sense that it won't change, because things are already changing for the better
But he isn't wrong in the sense that change has been very slow due to Americans in general not finding this stuff offensive. Poll numbers from a decade ago really do show the lack that Americans, even Indians, cared about changing the term Redskins which is PROBABLY the most offensive example out there. Obviously it has changed since then but it shows us why change has been so slow

Was the salary good or bad? I was under the impression that chiefs were compensated quite well

Try being the only white kid in a school in the NW territories and tell me you can't be racist against white people. Try getting beat up every day by other kids solely due to your race and tell me that. Well, they're just kids you'll say, but where do you think kids learn to hate? This was the mid 90s so maybe things have changed but I doubt it. Anyone saying you can't be racist against a white person is simply wrong. It's much less prevalent and NOT a societal problem at large but to proclaim things like that from a soapbox is, well, ignorant. Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. All racism is wrong and all racists are the scum of the earth, regardless of their skin colour.

It's an interesting point, but personally I think this is one of those issues where ultimately the problem is more in the way the native Americans feel that they are being oppressed and taking it out on some random white person than it is about native Americans thinking of whites as inferior as people. Or to put it in another way, there's other reasons to beat up the guy that stands out than the offenders being racists.
The point is, trying to make the situation better by lecturing about racism to those kids might do nothing, and even make things worse.
What they need to be told is that the violence is not an acceptable way to air out your frustration.
Which also helps stop racists turning into violent racists.
EDIT:
Or, they could in fact just be racists.
