I am just glad that the mass murderers will never win. No matter how many times incidents like this occur we will not take away the right to own a firearm, nor will we properly provide for any form of gun control. To do either of those things would mean that the mass murders would win and that will not be allowed. America already allowed the terrorists to win by taking away basic freedoms through the Patriot Act, they will not allow the mass murderers to win as well.

Exactly, it'd be unfair to honest, hardworking Americans that need automatic machine guns with thousands of rounds of piercing bullets to hunt deer and gophers.
So American that gun sales have shot up drastically in Colorado for such an isolated incident.

All bullets are piercing....I'm not sure where automatic weapons got mixed in to this but yes there are limited uses. Very few people have automatic weapons, and most people have semi-auto, which tying back to this case the shooter used. Remember it was discussed that automatic weapons are generally useless....and lastly since when does amount of ammo matter? I have thousands of rounds of ammo, mostly because my typical target shooting outings will consist of 3-500 rounds shot, I have multiple calibres to buy for, and its cheaper to buy in bulk....does that make me crazy? Heck no, its an expensive hobby, I'm just thrifty
Remember what seems out of the ordinary for you or somebody who doesnt share our interests, is very common for many of the millions of firearms owners. Sure there are a few that shoot 20 rounds a year, sighting in and hunting and that's it. The rest of us regularly shoot, just like I regularly play hockey, regularly camp, regularly bike.
Very very lastly, yes a firearm is a line of defense, when I'm hiking a shotgun is very effective to keep key girlfriend and my dogs safe in the event of a wildlife attack. In Colorado and many of the states, it is a self defense weapon, and so yeah its not hard to see how people parallel danger and a sudden re evaluation on their personal security, and take action to correct that.
You can stay a victim or you can be responsible for yourself

Actually, its beyond naive...its just stupid and ignorant.
Which is odd in that the "anti-gun/ban them all" group accuses those that disagree with them.... of the exact same thing. NOTHING gets accomplished when extremists from either side of any debate are involved.....and you provided a great example why.

You carry a shotgun with you everytime you go into the mountains? Why not just bring a bear banger?
I just think it is insane that someone would feed the need to arm themselves because of an incident that occurred with someone who is obviously nuts who has already been arrested by the police and from all appearances it is an isolated incident.
I guess the mongooses will kill the snakes though.

Canadians fight bears off with their fists...
Seriously, when I go camping, or especially hiking, the last thing I want is extra weight.

I wouldn't want to be the ####### eaten by a bear with a nice little shotgun sitting on my mantle at home.

Who are the news guys on the daily Fox schedule.
Fox and Friends - Nope, this cannot be classified as unbiased news.
America Newsroom - Perhaps
Happening Now - Perhaps
America Live with Megyn Kelly - Far from it, this is a pure opinion show
Shepard Smith - He is a decent news guy, this is a news show
Neil Cavuto - No
The Five - No
Bret Baier - Barely a news show but it is a news show
O'Reilly - No
Hannity - No
Van Susteren - No
When you look at their lineup they have maybe 5 hours of news programming a day. And even in their news programming they consistently and purposely misrepresent the news.

I have never heard of someone hiking with a shotgun and I have lived in the mountains for about 8 years now.

Golden Calf
Here's what I don't get.
Lawmakers, especially Republicans, are constantly opening the abortion debate. In many states even birth control is under attack. Which is a female health issue not even always used for birth.
Gay rights? Yeah, not American. Those people don't need freedom.
Republicans always want to tell you they are fighting for freedom and less control, but besides this issue, it's an outright lie.
Protesting? Burning the flag? Not agreeing with the President in times of war?
What makes guns the golden calf?

There are stronger laws against Sufafed. Laws to tell you how fast you can drive and where you can pee. There is control all over the place.
But guns. Well guns are different.

I used to hike a lot in the mountains and I have run into a few bears over the years. However, I always come armed...with bear spray. I haven't had to use it once.
Regarding the bolded comment: the formula isn't as simple as no gun=victim or gun=responsible. I'm not totally anti-gun. I can appreciate that there are some legitimate reasons to own a gun. However, hand guns and semi-automatic weapons are made for only one reason and that is to shoot people. There's something troubling about that.
I don't think this particular incident has much, if anything, to do with the 'gun issue' but that's what this thread has largely become now.

Men aren't always rapists or shooters.
I don't know how people argue the dichotomy. There is a natural instinct to love and protect

Well my guns don't seem to mind at all that they shoot paper only. Thats a really poor statement to say that guns are made for one reason. Semi automatic weapons are fine for hunting some wildlife. You won't see many serious bird hunters out with a pump action shotgun either. I'm not sure why the focus has now shifted to whether you move the action to chamber a round or inertia does it for you being an unnecessary evil? Maybe we should show you a bunch of photos of firearms and you'll see most come in semi auto....at least the practical work guns. For the record the least practical is a bolt action, the super scary steyr in .50bmg...so I guess its OK as its not a semi...
Just saying your argument is flawed
And you're correct, gun control has little to do with this but the ban gun crowd came out as usual and started an offensive we had to defend
