Reds clinch the NL Central tonight!
I don't follow baseball like I used to, but it's great to see them playing so well. If only the Mariners could do the same...

Atlanta came so closing to losing tonight as they were going for the 22nd straight win when Kris Medlen starts, but Freddie Freeman hits a 2 run walk off homer in the bottom off the ninth as they win 4-3 and clinch a wildcard spot. That ties Whitey Ford and Carl Hubbell for the longest streak in the Live Ball Era.

Doesn't feel right that they can be out of the playoffs with one loss (probably vs the Cardinals).

How about that, Kris Medlen breaks the record for an MLB pitcher as Atlanta won their 23rd in a row when he starts a game. He is now alone on top as he broke the previous record held by Whitey Ford,Carl Hubbell, and himself in the Live Ball Era which was 22. Kinda of fitting I guess too since this was the last regular season game for a legend in Chipper Jones at home.

The Oakland Athletics have clinched at least the 2nd wild card position tonight! Unreal! They were predicted to lose 100 games this year. They are within 1 game of the Rangers for the division league.

Cabrera hit his 44th homer, can't imagine he gets the triple crown and not the MVP. Plus my Tigers clinched their division last night. I was almost ready to write them off at the end of August when they were swept by KC and couldn't generate any run support.

Giants did the Cards a huge favor, playing their guts out to knock out the Dodgers, when they could have been resting players.
In your face, L.A.!

soo winner take all tonight Texas vs. Oakland.
Winner goes to the division series, loser (most likely) has to go to Baltimore for the wildcard playoff.

The A's have won 67 of their last 100 games. Texas has led the west since April.

Did Nolan Ryan make the trip to Oakland? I await multiple close-ups of Nolan in anguish.
"Sell-out" crowd? I guess, when the upper decks have tarps over the seats.

2-1 for Texas - Texas has runners on 2nd and third, two out.
Rangers bust it open, 4-1
Error by the catcher - A's playing Funny Ball
5 - 1 , bottom of the 4th
Now 7 - 5 for Oakland! Does anyone want to win this pennant? Still in the 4th.

That's really more a testament to Oakland than it is Texas collapsing. I do think you can say a team with 93 wins and would be division champion in either other division a collapse.
That said they have only played .500 ball over the past month. The Rangers dominate every team but the ones in their own division.

Looks like Miguel Cabera has the Triple Crown all wrapped after Josh Hamilton failed to hit 2 HR's against Oakland. Unless of course Mike Trout has a miracle tonight.
Also, after Pittsburgh had an meltdown for the second year in a row and lost 4-0 to Atlanta in an afternoon tilt today, its an MLB record 20th-straight losing season for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ouch.
The first Wildcard game on Friday is the NL one between St.Louis and Atlanta which goes at 3:07 PM MT. Kyle Loshe and Kris Medlen will start the game for their teams. The winner will take on Washington on Sunday. Washington has also home field advantage throughout the NL Playoffs.
