A friend watching the young stars feed with me proposed "Beaster" if the Burke/Feaster combination works, and "Furke" if it doesn't.

Furke when we're losing and Beaster when we're winning. It works.

Yep. Make no mistake, Burke has certainly been the boss throughout his GM career. That doesn't mean he doesn't delegate. Nonis was usually the guy responsible for contract negotiations (like many AGMs). When it comes to the draft he usually trusts his scouts. But at the same time Burke will make decisions that he feels is right. For example there was speculation that Nonis pushed hard for Eakins to be hired as coach but Burke wanted Caryle. I don't remember exactly, but I remember there were other contracts that Burke handed out that Nonis didn't agree with.

I would be very surprised if Burke doesn't announce a hiring soon. He's always brought along his own guy wherever he has gone.

I welcome uncle Burke to the fold, his brash style and hockey mind is what this team needs. Should be a good fit in Calgary.

Only part of his presser that was troubling was the talk of, I like my teams to trade chances with the other team. Umm Carlyle never coached that way Brian, he was one of the biggest line matching coaches in the NHL.

Honeslty, I think this is the best hiring in a very long time.

Personally, I think Feaster is now a middle who could easily be cut out if needed. They could always hire someone to speak for Burke in public situations. PR people.

Either way, as long as they don't butt heads, I guess it could work, but Burke is by far a superior hockey mind. Feaster already had Conroy as his assistant. Seems like they have too many people doing the same job now.

Why the hell would they do that. One of the best things about this hire is Burke speaking in public situations.

Chances are, a Burke press conference will be one of the most entertaining things we see this season.

I'm sure you will hear from him, just not as much as a GM. Ken King did a lot of interviews on McCown and the like, I would expect Burke to take on that role.

My prediction is that most of the things Burke said (in regards to roles and personnel) will no longer hold true by the end of next offseason.

Flames hiring Burke makes me smile - even a few days later.

Oh you will hear from him once in a while...really doubt he holds any press conferences though unless its to announce changes to management...any personnel announcements/pressers will come from feaster.

I think Feaster uses an empowerment model, "using the abilities of everyone on the management team"; Where as Burke is more of a top down guy. In other words Burke won't mince words, if he wants to add a piece or make a change he gets things done. If these 2 can work together it might be a nice balance. Too many times the last few years we had a number of players taking nights off, it would be nice to see the Flames build a solid "balls to wall" team. Burke seems like the type of person who knows how to find the right type of players and get the ship to it's destination little more quickly.

Totally forgot about the Burkie v Lowe angle. That could prove fun.

If Burke gets as passionate about the BOA as someone in the team should, he'll have all sorts more motivation to make Kevin Lowe look foolish.

They basically have the same job right? Or is Lowe more Kings counterpart?

By all accounts John Davidson's greatest attribute in his role as president is his ability as a salesman. Convincing free agents to come aboard and promoting the benefits of your team and city is important in this role.

I'm hoping Burke will be a great benefit to the Flames in this regard. I can't help but think that Burke's hiring will be felt immensely when it comes time to get Johnny Gaudreau signed to a pro contract.

I don't remember enough about what happened, but is the way he handled Kadri any cause for concern?

I probably sit more in the camp that Burke deserves credit for holding him back and letting him develop, but I know many are on the other side of the argument. Thoughts?
