Extremely unlikely since they're all centers and Barkov is always talked about in a higher regard. I guess not impossible though.

My hope is that TBay takes him at 3, causing Nashville to take Drouin at 4, and increasing the liklyhood that Barkov could drop to 6.

The likelyhood of Barkov dropping to 6 is slim to none.
I think Tampa is the real mystery here: do they pick Nichushkin, Drouin or Barkov?
Perhaps COL is blowing smoke but I do think they are genuinely after Mackinnon, and that Tallon wouldn't pass up Jones with the #2 pick, leaving Tampa to dictate how the rest of the top 10 plays out.

My thought is one of Nichushkin, Drouin, or Barkov falls to 6.
These drafts never go according to plan, somebody in the top 5 always goes off the board a little bit. Jones/Mackinnon are likely a lock at 1/2 but 3-6 is pretty much a toss up.
Would anybody really be shocked if this happened:
3)Nichushkin
4)Drouin
5)Monahan
6)Barkov
or even
3)Drouin
4)Lindholm
5)Nichushkin
6) Barkov
Maybe Drouin is the one that falls based on NSH and TB wanting centers.
3)Barkov
4)Lindholm
5)Nichushkin
6)Drouin
The unexpected tends to happen on NHL draft day.

Yes. Barkov will not fall to 6. IMO Drouin has a better chance of dropping to 6 than Barkov. Would not be surprised to see Nichushkin fall to 8-10 and Nurse may be a factor in this as well.

I was just thinking about that, and I could see something like this happen, you never know. For me it's all about Tampa's pick. I figured Drouin would be a lock-in, but who knows...

The more I am reading tweets and other things the more I think Jones is going to fall into our laps at 6. I can see MacKinnon going to Avs, the Panthers will take Barkov, TB will take Druin, the Preds will take Monahan, and the Canes take Nikushkin. Lindholm would be nice because he is a C but if the above happens I think we absolutely have to take Jones.

Nashville GM said that if Jones falls to 4 they will take him.

I have heard that Florida really wanted MacKinnon and are looking to draft a C as tht is their biggest need. If the Avs take MacKinnon I am pretty sure Tallon will take Barkov at #2.

I'd be super shocked if Barkov fell to 6th. No chance it happens IMO. But I do agree with you that the unexpected can happen. All it takes is one team to like one player.
That said I think a lot of teams have the same top 4 in different orders (MacKinnon, Jones, Drouin, Barkov). Some teams apparently have Nichushkin in their top 4. So he remains the big wildcard for us. The problem is that if one of the big 4 is knocked out of the top 4 by Nichushkin then Carolina can just scoop that player up. To me it seems unlikely that one of the big 4 could possibly drop to us. I suppose there is a very slim chance that some team has Nurse in their top 5. So far it sounds like Carolina and Nashville are going to go with forwards. I think Barkov is more likely to go higher than #4 than lower than #4.
1. COL - MacKinnon
2. FLA - Jones/Barkov
3. TB - Barkov/Drouin/Jones
4. NSH - Barkov/Drouin
5. CAR - Nichushkin/Lindholm/Monahan
Sounds like CAR might not shy away from Nichushkin. Which would leave us Lindholm/Monahan and the rest.

I suppose I could see it play out like that...I bet Poile would sprint to the podium to call Jones if he somehow dropped to #4...

Fla - Barkov
Tb - Nichushkin
Nsh - Jones
Car - Drouin
Cgy - Lindholm
Edm - Monahan
Buf - Nurse
Njd - Horvat
Dal - Shinkurak
or
Col - Jones
Fla - Mackinnon
Tb - Barkov
Nsh - Lindholm
Car - Nichushkin
Cgy - Drouin
Edm - Lindholm
Buf - Monahan
Njd - Nurse
Dal - Shinkurak
Just my feeling.

If that's allowed, why don't we just pick MacKinnon 6th overall??

there's video on the Lightning site with their scout saying their top 3 (in no particular order) is Jones, Mack and Drouin
Preds say the top 4 are Jones, Mack, Barkov and Drouin, with Jones at #1 (the other 3 are not in order)
Roy says the Avs are taking Mack
assuming they were telling the truth, pretty easy to project the top 4 picks as (and most likely in this order) Mack, Jones, Drouin, Barkov
Wishful thinking having the Flames get any of these guys at #6

Interesting interview with Todd Button on how the Flames prepare for the draft. Article isn't clear but sounds like the Flames have 140 players on their list for this year's draft compared to only 75 for least year and 90 in 2011.
