This PLD situation reminds me of ######ne.

Teams are better off without.
what about Ryan O'Rielly?

I have read plenty of criticisms on this very forum about how Treliving dropped the ball by not outbidding St. Louis.

@Aportzline

#CBJ Pierre-Luc Dubois is on the ice this morning to take part in the Blue Jackets’ optional practice.

I still think a Dubois - Laine swap makes the most sense for both teams. Yah, Columbus is then thin on centre, but I think that's the best value they're going to get vs. any other team.

I would definitely want to trade for Dubois, but not at the expense of any of the top 4 forwards or Andersson. So probably nothing that Columbus would entertain.

Did O'Rielly flat out no show games because he wanted a trade?

This is the way I see it. Being and NHLer is your job. you get paid to do you best. You aren't happy? you want a new work place? you don't give up and let everyone you work with down after handing in your two week notice.

The Flames have no shortage of skill, what they are short on in players who show up when all the chips are down and every inch matters.

PLD is mailing it in. Send him to the Oilers with that Attitude.

I just don't see why the Jets would do that. Laine is a game breaker. Dubois has potential.

Would something like Bennett, Kyllington and like a 2nd round pick work? I would be willing to do that or do they want Bennett, 1st and Anderson? If that is the price, I am out as a fan.

Edit, alright, I would include a 1st instead of a 2nd, Bennett and Kyllington or something along those lines.

Y'all don't want to hear this but if we want Dubois without moving Monahan, it's probably Valimaki that needs to be included on the back.

I don't think one bad forecheck and slow bench return is enough evidence to say he gave up on his team.
It is being spun that way, and his value has surely taken a hit. It is a red flag but not yet damning. Might be good for a buy low scenario.

You are right and I don’t think it is a deal the Flames will make. They are in love with Valimaki.

If the Flames keep Monahan then I am struggling to see a fit. They seem to like their mix right now.

Even if we start looking at Pelletier/Zary+1st being part of the package I think other teams can top that. This is why I am not holding out any hope we are a fit for Dubois.

Well, this is the best thing to happen for a team looking to acquire him. The price dropped.

As for being worried about if this kid is going to come in and be an issue, well, he could. I am sure there are lots of examples around the league of this happening. There are also examples of it showing that once a player gives up on a team, he may work just as hard if not harder on the next team to make sure that stigma doesn't stick to him. As a Flames fan - and 100% not holding it against these former players - we can look at Nieuwendyk and Gilmour. Both wanted out, both went on to be important pieces for their next teams.

I do think that the price is dropping on Dubois. I would love for the Flames to acquire him, and I think he would do really well here. Of course it is all price-dependent. I do have one reservation about it, however, and probably a small one - this team is looking like a really good team that is playing well up and down the lineup, and disturbing that might mess with the current chemistry.

If you remove a Monahan right now, or convert Lindholm back to wing, etc. I think the Flames have 3 very solid lines going at the moment, though of course the sample size is still small. If the price is right, you simply have to disregard that if you have a chance to upgrade your team anyway, and especially at a premium position. If the Flames can somehow keep all of their important pieces together and while bringing in Dubois, this team will be a legitimate cup threat.

If Columbus is smart, they aren't trading Dubois for anyone older than Dubois.

Columbus went all-in to show something to their loyal fans, and it did not translate to anything meaningful. At the trade deadline 2019 they traded all of the assets listed below for players that then left via free agency (right alongside Panarin and Bobrovsky):

- 2019 1st round pick
- 2020 2nd round pick
- 2021 2nd round pick
- 2019 4th round pick
- 2019 7th round pick
- 2022 5th round pick
- Anthony Duclair
- Vitaly Abramov
- Jonathan Davidsson

And now their 3rd overall pick from 2016 has requested a trade? Any trade that they make needs to be focused on rebuilding this team.

They should be targeting a top prospect + high picks. Teams that are already rebuilding - do they risk their 1st round pick in 2021? Doubtful in my eyes.

So who is willing to spend a lot? Other teams who think they are on the brink of being contenders.

Calgary, Montreal, and then your trade-happy big hitters like Vegas or championship quality teams like Tampa are probably in there.

Calgary could do an offer around high picks, a top prospect (Zary/Pelletier), and a cap-hit (Ryan).

Montreal could do a very similar trade (Caulfield may be of interest).

Tampa and Vegas could likely do picks and a roster player.

So who wins in that type of battle?

If Columbus is going out there to make a "hockey trade", then I think they lose that trade on day 1 and I feel bad for their fans. That team needs to recoup assets and turn the page.

Is Dubois and immediate and clear upgrade over Monahan? If so, then make the trade to send out Monahan. Otherwise, why trade Monahan.

You're right, if they're going to add Dubois and keep Monahan, why? Lindholm is looking good at C and he deserves an opportunity longer than just a few games to prove he is good at that position.

So, you can make a trade to get Dubois and you keep Monahan and Lindolm stays at center. Who plays on the 3rd line? Who would be happy about that? Certainly not Dubois based on his current attitude in Columbus. Lindy and Mony may quietly do it, but they wouldn't be too happy either. So who moves to the wing? None of them would prefer that. Lindholm would do it, but he probably quietly asks for a trade after a couple of years of not getting this chance or just simply walks when he becomes UFA.

Adding Dubois doesn't make sense to me.

Lol some of the proposals today have been a bit ridiculous. For a player like Dubois they don't want our bottom line forward/7th D and a high first. It's still gotta to be something of value like Hanifin, Dube and a 1st. Funny how 1 lazy looking shift made him go from Monahan value to Bennett... High salary or not, everyone has moments where they don't give 100% every day they work. If my boss/coach made it a miserable place to be, sure I'd do what I could to help my teammates/co-workers but having that environment would definitely crap on the consistency of my daily motivation. This is still a young player learning how life works and developing maturity. He will not always demonstrate the exact response some wish all people would in that circumstance.

I think the thought the price is dropping is just not true.

Contrary to the morning show’s belief he was never worth Lindholm, Hanifin, 1st and he is not worth the Bennett, Kylington, 1st offer I read on here earlier.

The only thing I think this does is expedite Jarmo’s desire to make the trade but he is still going to get a haul.

One trade I read on HF that makes sense and scares the hell out of me is the Avs sending Kadri and Newhook for Dubois.

I don't think there is any question it drops the price, because it forces their hand. They can no longer be patient because it is a cancerous situation.

I could have seen WPG moving Laine for him in the summer, but not now, not with his strong start and PLD's implosion. Also, if anyone is worried about PLD and a small mkt, WPG certainly would. Chevy throws nickels around like they are manhole covers, I can't see him giving up Laine.

Bennett+Valimaki+1st 2021 or Zary is the most "legit" offer I would make for Dubois.

Shift lindy back to RW:

Tkachuk-Dubois-Lindholm
Gaudreau-Monahan-Mangiapane
Dube-Backlund-Leivo

I think that top 9 is competing for the cup.
But I can also see the allure in leaving Lindy at center and going out looking for a good RW to set us over the top... I still like the idea of adding Laine.

I think acquiring a disgruntled player can work out - see Roy, Carter, Gilmour, etc. But only if it's a team he wants to go to, so any team (aside from the obvious ones) need to be pretty sure about their status.
