Depending on the price, I wouldn't mind a Ferly rental.

at this point, you'd have to give up assets or eat salary to shed Neal, and I don't know if Tre is willing to admit defeat on that signing so early on, despite Neal's poor play.
I think bringing back ferly would be awesome, but that would be a bad look for Carolina...especially if Hamilton is struggling to the point trade rumors are starting to come up.
talk about a bad look if Ottawa doesn't sign Duchene... looking like OTT 1st is going to be top 3...

Acquiring Duchene would be the final step for this team. Keeping him would be insanely difficult (although probably easier than keeping Mark Stone).

Keeping him would be perfect but I have a feeling he is going back to Colorado as a UFA. Which makes the Sens trade even worse.

If there is a deal to be done with Ottawa for Duchene, I would be all over it.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Duchene
Frolik - Ryan - Neal
Hathaway - Jankowski - Bennett

I doubt it. There was some snarky comments from the Avalanche locker room I thought. Don't think he would be particularly welcomed back with open arms.He was the one who wanted out too.

I would be shocked if Duchene went back to Colorado. Remember the whole controversy between him and Joe Sakic? It wasn't exactly a seamless breakup.

Micheal Ferland for Michael Frolík, he could mentor their young Czech centre Martin Necas.

You request a trade then sign back a couple years later? Would definitely be a bit odd.

One, I'm pretty sure Treliving's going to exercise a little more patience. He's going to want to see if Neal can turn it up for us in the playoffs first, regardless of how poorly he's doing this season. If he's a dud there as well, then I see Treliving maybe exploring trading him. And that's still a maybe IMO.
And two, who in the league would want him? I'm not willing to give up assets for someone to take him off our hands.
So for better or worse, I'm pretty confident we're stuck with him for now.

It also sends a bad message to other free agents. "Sign long term here and we'll ship you out if you're not performing three months into your first year".

I drool at the thought of adding another core top 6 forward, especially a C, and a competent back up goalie.
This team would by unreal.

Meh, hockey players are people. They know when a player isn't living up to his end of the deal and that sometimes fits just aren't right.
I mean, if a player doesn't want to sign with Calgary because they want a nice cushy no-pressure team that doesn't matter if you live up to your contract or not, then it's best we don't sign him in the first place. Sign players who want to be on the best team possible even if it means making some tough decisions.
I think there's a difference between taking a hometown discount and getting shipped out at a premium, and a team trying to fix a mistake. And it's not like Neal isn't still going to be making every penny of his contract (sans buyout).
Don't think he gets traded because no team wants to touch that contract right now.

Yes, but it's been three months. It's not that they want to play on a pressure free team where they can slack off as much as they want. They want to play on a team who isn't going to give up on them halfway through their first season. A GM should atleast give a player a full season before he starts questioning whether he made a mistake.

People need to calm down about Neal, he isn't playing good but hesa good player. He has what it takes and just needs to put it together. Last year so many people wanted to get rid of Hamonic and now a LOT of those people love him. It sucks but sometimes things take time to pan out. I would not trade Neal unless it was an unreal return (like part of a package for Duchene)

True, then again when the Sens played there he tweeted he would always be an Av so who knows. Would take some serious juggling to sign him if we rented him and sign Tkachuk too.

If we somehow landed Duchene it would be as a 2nd line center instead of a winger:
Czarnik
Stone
Dube
1st
For
Duchene
Going all in would be a Ferland rental while swapping Frolik and his contract that has another year; with Stone and Frolik going out it could make signing Duchene and extending Tkachuk doable:
Frolik
Gillies
2nd
For
Ferland
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Duchene - Neal
Bennett - Backlund - Ferland
Jankowski - Ryan - Hathaway
Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kylington - Andersson
Valimaki
Rittich
Smith

I don't think that gets it done. Change Stone to Jankowski and that is probably more like it.
