I think it's more a budgetary thing. It's costly and time-consuming to shoot episodes with a lot of zombie killing action and explosions in them. They have to have these smaller episodes to offset that.
That's also why they have a lot of episodes where major cast members don't appear at all. The actors get paid per episode, so if one doesn't appear in an episode, it saves the production money. For example, I don't believe Carol or Glenn appeared at all in this week's episode.

Really? There isn't some level of explanation you'd want for a guy who they left on the side of the road with his hands and legs tied fairly securely suddenly appearing on the roof of their vehicle miles down the road? That's not a 'little detail' -- it was an integral scene in the episode that fundamentally made made zero sense. The only explanation is that he somehow untied himself and completely silently clambered on to the roof of the truck in a matter of seconds. But then, Darryl fingered the guy in the side mirror as they drove away too -- wouldn't he have noticed that he wasn't there anymore?
People complain and nitpick this show a lot in this thread and I let a lot of things slide but that was just way too big of a jump. It didn't make sense at all -- same with them leaving their car at the other farm and both going in the truck. It was clearly not done for any reason that would make sense other than "We need them to do that for the story".

Also how did he hang onto the roof or wait, maybe he is TJ Hooker's child.
I use to nick pick OOTC, but it wrecks the show. If Michonne and Ginger can walk away from an explosion like what happened in mid-season premiere, anything is possible.
Sometimes you just gotta let it go.

Haha, that was far from the most unbelievable thing to happen that episode. If you want an explanation of how a guy skilled in sleight of hand slipped some loosely tied rope and jumped on the back of a truck, maybe you should also get one on how Deanna went up against 20-30 zombies with no way out, and not only didn't get torn apart, but also managed to get away from the rest of the zombie carnage.
Such a strange detail to get caught up on.

I was surprised that she didnt fire 5 shots and save one for herself.

She probably killed herself but not with a headshot. Being dead, prevented her from getting attacked and also caused her to reanimate.
Or the more obvious reason is, it is the walking dead
That aside, I love this show. My guilty pleasure for sure

Or she just died before they all ate her, since she was on death's door anyway. There's also no real reason that I can remember to think that the zombies particularly like eating heavily tainted meat (that is people who have been bit for a while and are almost zombies).

That is what TV and movies are all about, a little bit of wonder, a little bit of magic. "How did he do that?" "How did they survive that?"
Having said that, if you pay attention to the details of the scene you can infer what happened.
Jesus was loosely tied up on the drivers side of the a 5 ton panel truck. He was tied in such a way as to be able to escape his bonds. He is obviously very dexterous and adept at the slight of hand, so I infer he escaped very easily, probably easier than Rick thought.
When Rick and Darryl get into the truck they pi$$ around for a good 30 - 45 seconds before they leave. Rick twirls the keys around on his finger, Darryl gets a few things out of his backpack, fingers the passenger mirror, and yells in Rick's ear.
The mirrors are so dirty you can't see anything. Even if they were clean Darryl wouldn't be able to see Jesus on the drivers side from the passenger mirror. Not to mention he doesn't really look in the mirror he just kind of fingers the mirror in the general direction of the back of the truck.
Jesus strikes me as a pretty smart and wily guy that could probably scramble up that truck pretty quickly and quietly.
They don't notice him until they are bumping around in the farmers field, otherwise I am sure it was a pretty smooth ride on the road.
Seems like a lot of people are so busy looking for BS they miss the explanation in the details.

Since always? He would go on runs to collect supplies all the time.
Rick is whatever Rick has to be whenever Rick has to be it.

If they don't show it happening or give along explanation of what/how it happened..... it didn't/couldn't have happened. That's the way it works.

The only thing that I didn't like about the episode was that they left Jesus (or tried to). I thought the more prudent thing to do would be to blindfold him, take him prisoner, learn as much as you could about his people, then drive him back out and release him if he wasn't a threat.

This seems pretty risky as well, bringing an unknown factor into your camp. Who knows if anyone else is with him? Or if he's able to infer where he is while imprisoned.
Leaving him loosely tied up on the road seemed like a safe idea. Leave the knots loose enough to buy some time for Rick and Daryl to drive away. Who knew that he was wily enough to get out of those ropes as quickly as he did? Maybe after he kung-fu'ed the both of them they should have realized, but meh, live and learn I guess.

Huh.
This episode was so awful I had to turn it off about half-way through. I think that's the first Walking Dead epsisode I literally could not force myself to finish, even while I was doing other things that hold my attention.

Really? For me it was that Morgan episode with Drew Carey's brother and some sticks.
That sucked out loud.
