He was not traded to the Oilers like some Flames of the past . He signed their in FA. Forever a flame is a big no. I suspect he signed their thing he'd get to a cup and at the same time play on Mcdavids line to boost his stats as a former 35 goal scorer. . He only signed a 2 year contract and was ousted so quick.

He was a terrible bet by bowman and successfully disrupted the room and chemistry in a very important year for Edmonton, secret agent mang to the rescue!!

Yowza. I'm sure you would turn down 7.2mm dollars (and probably 4 more than you're worth) just so you could keep the #foreveraflame hashtag next to your name. I mean the guy cost them a helpful player and then a 1st round pick! You can only do that work from the inside.
I hate the Oilers with every fibre of my being but I would gladly take a league min contract to ride the bench with that gross jersey on.

Had the displeasure listening to Stauffer yesterday on the Real Kyper and Bourne. Just the usual propaganda nonsense but what really stood out to me was him saying that Bouchard has been the best defensemen in the league since the beginning of December and that people tend to focus to much on his giveaways and play in his own end. Umm, Bob, it's because he's a defenseman. It's literally his job to play in his own zone and not to turn the puck over. The non stop glazing of those clowns is second to none. Just disgusting.

Crazy that Nurse this has 4 years left on that awful contract. Seems like he has been on it for a decade now.

That is because of all teams, Edmonton usually is the one that hands out 8 year contracts like it's nobody's business, but didn't give Nurse the same treatment. For whatever reason, they love to hardball their defenseman (Bouchard should have received an 8 year deal after his monster playoffs, but they didn't think he did lol), Nurse when he was a 5.6mer, and Broberg, but we all know how that went down.

Wasn't Nurse's contract for 8 years?

For what it's worth, I have it on good authority that Bouchard's camp didn't want 8 years.
Gets to dip back into the market at 29 with a higher cap.

Oilers are lucky that everyone is slumping that's chasing them right now or they'd be easily out of the playoffs. They seem to get lucky a lot and still suck.

It's so annoying, they're on their way to an absolute cupcake bracket as well.
If the playoffs started today it would be Vegas in the first round who are absolute paper tigers and then the winner of Anaheim-Utah, neither of which I'm really sold on.
Even given how bad they've looked all year they might just ride 97 and 29 back to a WCF against Colorado/Dallas/Minnesota who will have beaten the hell out of each other.
Re-seeding needs to come back.

Yes, but after he took a bridge contract 2x? If memory serves. I am referring to the Oilers offering an 8 year deal to players right off rip.

So lets give him the benefit of the doubt for a second and see where he is if playing defense didn't matter.
- 5th in 5 on 5 pts/game
- 1st in all situations pts/game
Defensively ...
- 6th in xGF%
- 83rd in xGA60
So his metrics are boosted by his offence, and he's boosted offensively by the PP.
Nowhere near top defenseman in the league.

Even if the Oilers were to try to trade Nurse, and be willing to do 50% retained, I doubt too many teams would line up to take him. He's completely fallen off a cliff and looks like he doesn't have much hockey IQ without the puck. Would I want Nurse in a third pairing at over 4.5 a year with the length on that contract. Not likely unless you throw in major incentive in a high pick or a young player and I doubt that Edmonton is going to give up Savoie or Howard as they are the only half decent prospects in their system.
I expect that Oiler fans are in a rage about TJ fighting with the leadership group for the Oilers. But lets be honest, how many goalies have failed there. At this point its not as much a goalie issue as it is a team in front of them issue. I can bet Jarry, finally lost it at Bouchard, and Conna and Leon for loafing on the back check and allowing wide open chances. Good for him if he did. I watched one pregame breakdown with a stinky Oiler's fan where he described the play of the Oilers in their own end as the play of an entitled team. I don't disagree with that.
Honestly, if Oiler fans were intellectual honest, they would look at this lineup which is old and getting older, and realize that the window is really closing fast and there's not much of a future with a lack of picks and a lack prospects, and realize that if the Oilers don't do another deep run this year that they need to start moving older assets for younger ones, and that probably starts with Hyman and RNH and Ekhome etc.
They are also likely to lose their backup, which is a loss.
I would be in a panic right now if I was in Oilers management.

It shouldn't have crippled them as much as it did, with McDavid's discount and Hyman's value contract. But they blew their savings on plugs.
