Played Springbank Links tonight, another first time round. Similar to Heritage Pointe, it's a real Jekyll and Hyde of a course, with the front 9 and back 9 playing like two completely different golf courses. The front has a ton of elevation changes, hills, gullies, just a lot of oddity to it. The back has much more water but is overall way more straightforward and open, and therefore a fair bit easier, which allowed me to get the score back under control and finish more or less in line with my handicap... I honestly think I probably would have scored better if I hadn't touched my driver on the front 9.
Now trying to find a time for 3 on Sunday afternoon and hoping the rain isn't too bad.

McKenzie Meadows had a spot in the early afternoon so that works. Just crossing off Calgary VIPGolf courses all over the place, maybe I can play them all in one summer...

Played lynx ridge yesterday.
Greens were terrible. I wouldn’t recommend playing anytime soon.

How does the VIP golf pass work? I've been trying to get out more with my son so would be nice to find a way to cut costs.

Played Blue Devil again Tuesday. 15 strokes better than last week.
I played really well actually but couldn't putt.
Ended up with 43 putts and 10 lipped-out putts (8 of them on the front 9).
I also hit the flagstick from 74 yards on the 9th and had a tap-in birdie.
Happy with how my game looked compared to last week!

Same for me - I'm a 12 and I hit my 5 iron 190 as well. But if I play 6800+ yards, I won't break 90.
IMO, most golfers play too far back, and thus shoot in the 90s or 100s, which contributes to slow play.
I like the rule whereby if you can't break 80, move up until you can. The game is supposed to be fun, not a torture test.

Really, it's about pace of play and fun factor. You should be playing the distance that allows you to keep up time wise and enjoy your game.

Agreed. handicap is a much better way to level the playing field. Who cares if you both hit a 5 iron the same distance? IMO, a better way to go is to play tees that equalize the skill gap as much as possible.

Speaking of tee boxes. It's all about dispersion for me. My longer clubs just aren't as accurate from the tee or into a green. We're down the Mornington Peninsula at the moment on a golf trip and played the tips at St Andrews Beach on the first round...200m par 3s are tough. Hitting longer clubs into them I only hit 50% of the greens.

Awesome Rutuu! Golfing Australia is on my bucket trip list. Need a full debrief at some point.
Have another golf junket planned for next month. Two weeks of golf on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama. Last time I played it was in early spring, so some of the courses were not fully transitioned. This time everything will be pristine. Can't wait!

Golfed the first round of the year at Priddis. I stopped keeping score after the 1st hole. I had a lot of fun though. Beautiful day.

Shot 81 at river spirit today. Course was in great shape for early season. Pretty windy but nice day all in all!

I don't know that it necessarily helps equalize anything though. It really depends where you lose strokes. For a lot of people if you move them up a tee box they don't really score any better, they just don't get to hit driver on as many holes because being further forward brings hazards into play that wouldn't otherwise be a concern. That's certainly the case for me - I'm not really much more accurate with my 3 wood off the tee than with driver so if I played from the whites my score wouldn't really change all that much, on a lot of courses anyway.

Celebrated Square Root Day

That sounds fair and is obviously true for you, but it doesn't go that way with almost anyone I play with. We're pretty much all better scorers from the whites.
Hazards change for sure, but ultimately the difference between 100-150y approaches and 155-180y approaches on second shots for me and almost everyone I know is the difference between often hitting greens and getting the odd good birdie look, with mostly par/bogey finishes (aka, having fun while golfing) and missing greens wildly and struggling to save bogey/double bogeys.

Going out for a twilight 9 tonight at Broadmoor in Sherwood Park. They installed air systems on their greens a few years ago and I hear they're already in mid season form.
Looking to come in under 50 tonight, unless this wind doesn't calm down in which case I will just be looking to not lose any balls.
Update: So close! Finished 50 with two triple bogeys on the last two holes. It was a great round for me with a birdie on hole 1 but definitely a disappointing finish.

The mosquitoes were out today. Of course I forgot to put bug spray in my bag.
Ended up shooting an 89 today which is a personal best for me. Been working on my short game and it helped me get that 89. Now to concentrate on putting as I seem to be coming up short on a lot of my putts.

I played quite well today despite not feeling great, I've been scoring reasonably consistently and there are still a few strokes to be found on the greens that I'm getting more and more of as I get into stride.
I got home though and for the first time I seem to have golfer's elbow on my right arm. It's not all that painful, just a bit tender, but has anyone had this and any thoughts to prevent it in the future? I'm just not sure what I must have done, I was trying to take a bit more of a divot than I typically do and that worked out OK for me, maybe that additional turf interaction was enough to do it? I only hit like 10-12 balls on the range beforehand, too, so it's not like I overdid it.

My wife had this a couple years ago, and she wore one of those bands. It worked and she recovered and doesn’t have any issues now.

I used "BandiT Elbow Brace" and it worked great.
