AP declares Clinton has enough delegates and is the presumptive nominee.

http://bigstory.ap.org/article/4c9c8...tic-nomination

Quote:
The former secretary of state, New York senator and first lady reached the 2,383 delegates needed to become the presumptive Democratic nominee on Monday with a decisive weekend victory in Puerto Rico and a burst of last-minute support from superdelegates. Those are party officials and officeholders, many of them eager to wrap up the primary amid preference polls showing her in a tightening race with presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Clinton has 1,812 pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses. She also has the support of 571 superdelegates, according to an Associated Press count.

The AP surveyed all 714 superdelegates repeatedly in the past seven months, and only 95 remain publicly uncommitted.

Sanders plans to make the case to superdelegates that he is better positioned to beat Trump in November. While superdelegates can change their minds, those counted in Clinton's tally have unequivocally told the AP they will support her at the party's summer convention. Since the start of the AP's survey in late 2015, no superdelegates have switched from supporting Clinton to backing Sanders.

American politics are so messed up, it's hard to actually call it a democracy.

So basically you have three candidates that various, significant portions of the population are willing to vote for, which normal democratic countries would call a good election. But in the States you basically have two parties and media pushing the one candidate away saying...

"alright, that's enough you're starting to cut into the real election where the two big money backed parties battle over which candidate will run the country as they're instructed by companies and billionares, and you're about to screw the democrats out of our comical election process where 90% of voters automatically vote for one party regardless of anything, and the other 10% are bull****ing that their vote is up for grabs".

What a joke of a country. That's not democracy.

You do understand that Bernie is losing by three million votes to Hillary, right? This isn't superdelegates, this is pen to paper votes from the people. The same people whose will Bernie keeps saying the Democratic party needs to recognize. Ok, the party will recognize it and nominate the person who's winning. Which isn't Bernie.

Which party is getting screwed over?

You are correct in that America is a Republic, not a Democracy. Been like that since 1776 I believe. The electoral college is why there will never be a third party of relevance, not the media. A third party run by Bernie here would allow Trump to become President with as little as 20% of the popular vote because three strong parties makes it almost impossible for anyone to get to 270 and win outright. And needing 270 to win outright will never change so while there could always be another party to replace one of the two, it will always be a two party system. And just to bug Bernie supporters yet again, it'll always be a two party system because of.....math. #FeelTheMath

I hope Drumpf implodes and causes the GOP to go with someone else at the convention. That said who can they go with? They've all decided to eat what Drumpf is serving them...except for Romney and Kasich I think.

This is incredible.

The Republicans have a presumptive nominee who may be charged for running a ponzi scheme.

The Democrats have a presumptive nominee who may be guilty of email fraud / government secrets / etc.

What an absolute mess the States are in right now.

I still think that the GOP holdouts who haven't supported or endorsed Trump will emerge from this chaos very well positioned within the GOP power structure. Not having supported Trump will be, I suspect, a badge of honour that those few who can will brandish as evidence of their commitment to the party's true causes.

Which has to make Paul Ryan the biggest loser in the GOP right now. His endorsement came just before Trump really went off the rails in the last couple days. Bet he wishes he held off another week because he could have waited, not endorsed him after his #### fits, and he looks miles better. Instead he looks like a no morals coward who folded to the party pressure. It's also interesting Romney is positioning himself to be the leader of the party again in the post-Trump wilderness they'll be wandering in. I would have thought he was done after 2012.

My respect for anyone supporting Trump immediately nose dives. All these GOP politicians falling in behind him built on pure ambition are going to be crucified.

Mistake on date aside, it's also conveniently well after the election.

It'd be funny if the next ruling president had to run the country from a Federal Corrections Institute.

Sorry Mr/Mrs President you'll have to wrap up your committee meeting visiting hours are up.

I really wish Jon Stewart didn't leave before this election, I can't imagine how much he's kicking himself for not being around for it.

But we are in for a wild ride, the Democratic convention, Hillary's VP choice, all the crazy stuff Trump will do and say, man you couldn't dream of a more insane election with two such unlikable people.

Ryan already folded to party pressure when he agreed to become speaker which he really didn't want to do. Thus far Ryan talks a good game but he is all talk.

According to Trump nut rider Newt Gingrich, Trump may enter the GOP convention on an elephant. The Trump Convention figures to be the trainwreckiest piece of trainwreck that has ever been wrecked. But if he were to take the stage, say "You know what? #### this, I'm done", mic drop and walks off...he's still one of the worst people ever, but he gets some redemption.
